SCS, Boston Scientific vs Medtronic
 

Hello:

I have been diagnosed with CRPS and have a Medtronic SCS implant in my hip area for my leg. Unfortunately I have back problems as well that are a separate issue. I have recently received a second opinion at which I was informed the SCS was placed for my back pain rather than the CRPS in the leg. My back problems are joint related, so the SCS does not help with that pain. The SCS also barely helps at all with my CRPS leg pain.

The more recent doctor suggested completely replacing the SCS with a Boston Scientific model that is recommended for SCS because it has more programming options available.

:confused: My questions to all of you are: has anyone encountered a similar problem? What are your thoughts or information on Boston Scientific vs Medtronic (especially on which unit is preferred for CRPS)?

I will greatly appreciate any and all of the information I can gather from you all!

It's good to have you! Although I'm sorry for the reason which brings you.
This type of pain we battle is very frustrating.

I currently have the Medtronics for my RSD in both legs. I'm pretty happy with it. I would be very hesitant to go in to have everything done all over again. It's a huge money-making thing for starters.
I'm amazed that you were told your current implant was put in for the wrong disorder!

There are several who have Boston Sci. Come on over and read some of the other posts. It'll be great getting to know you and hopefully we can be of help

I too was amazed and shocked when I was told the scs was put in for the wrong disorder. Naturally, I am nervous to redo the whole process, especially considering the cost of the procedure and device. On top of that, I have a blood clot issue and would have to take extra measures in an attempt to avoid clots. I am due for another surgery in my back and was going to have the doc do both surgeries at once, but don't know if I want to go through with the scs yet.

I am so nervous for the fact of what if it doesn't help? Why spend all that time and money for something that may not help at all? I just don't know what to do!

I will continue reading up on all the previous posts to hopefully get information that will help me to make a decision.

I have the Boston Scientific model the reps say its the top of the line but 2 months after putting in i cant get the felling on my left side and the exrays shows the panels have not moved
