Worst Hospital Experience Ever !!!! part1
 

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!
Last week (9/19) I went in for gallbladder surgery. Met with the surgeon/anesth...went over health problems, drugs Im allergic to, etc. They both said not to worry, I'd be fine. I get hooked up to everything and we go to the operating room. I ask if they can save me the organ, they gasp, and I dont recall anything til the next morning.

Ok, this is what I was told : I wake up from surgery go potty complain about a headache and go back to sleep. Then they cant wake me up, start calling doctors, ordering tests, etc

I wake up in ICU with horrific PAIN and all over!!!! Im screaming, crying and buzzing for someone. The nurse comes in and tells me to stop, that getting upset wont help. What? Im given meds and from that point on I go through cycles of pain, being extremely itchy (all over!!!), rashes, dehydrated, etc.
My neuro wasnt available, so his associate comes in. Now, he has a ****** off attitude and tells me that MS isnt painful. (heres an idea read my damn chart) Which I reply that my doc treats me for MS, Fibro and headaches all of which cause pain!!! (ok, maybe i had a little attitude) Then he tells me that neuro dont handle pain management. (need i remind you that you treated me a few months ago for all this...again, read the chart) He storms out of the room.

a few hours later my surgeon comes in and says he is discharging me, because he and the hospital cant help me because of my allergies and pain. What??? Isnt that what they are there for??????

I go home , take my meds and crawl into bed and cry. Im covered with
red welts around the surgery sites,itchy and a rash all over, Horrible pain in my belly and head, still so dehydrated, getting numb in places, and crying. What a site!!!!

OMG, I am so sorry for you. I hope things get better fast. Wouldn't you like to trade places with these people, oh what a sight that would be, they would be on suicide watch by the end of the day. Try not to cry...it always makes me feel even worse. How did they go from ICU to discharging you? Hopefully you are on your way to another
doctor/hospital now.

I have one question that I should start a post on...why is it that when you tell doctors that you have serious debilitating pain they act like are u are a
crazed druggie on a street corner?

Could you be allergic to the sutures they used to sew you up with?

My aunt was allergic to her sutures after she had back surgery. They had to go in and clean things up. Not sure if she had to get new sutures or not tho.

My dad told me that some people with fibro can have wacky reactions to medications, and that doctors and nurses sometimes won't believe the patient. (my dad is an anesthetist. He's been doing that longer than I've been alive and says he's seen a lot of stuff)


Will your insurance allow you to go to another hospital to get checked out to make sure you don't have an infection of some sort?

First of all, I would suggest you call the hospital and talk with a patient advocate about your experience there.

Knowing that you are having some sort of reaction to something, I'm not sure why they sent you home. IMO, they should have kept you for observation if anything. That would be normal protocol.

Also, start with your PCP and let them know of your experience and what you are experiencing now in regards to the pain, rash, hives, and headache.

If you feel worse, go to the ER. Go to another hospital if you need to and have a different one in town.

If it were me, I would be talking to a Lawyer, and getting checked out by a different Doctor and hospital.

Of course you had an attitude, they almost killed you and then wouldn't help you with your pain.:mad:

You should't be home on your own and should still be under a Doctor's care!!!!

first of all i'm so sorry you're going thru all this.
it sounds awful. i don't know what they are thinking.

i agree with tkrik.
i'd get in to see your pcp, and before the end of the wk. then, it might carry more weight if he wants a referral or tells you to go to the ER.

drink a little bit every hr. try to stay hydrated. it even might help the headache. if you have any idea what is causing the hives stop it. has this happened before?

How horrible! I hope you've followed through with doctors/hospital/neuro. A patient should not be left in pain and not helped and certainly not pushed out the door. :hug:

That's awful. My first thought is to see your PCP and have some one, if you can't do it, keep impeccapble records with camera and journals. I can't wait to read part 2. Good luck.

This is a terrible story - I cant believe you were treated so badlly. I hope you complain and get some satisfaction.
