new member with nerve pain
Hi, I suffered an l4 l5 disc herniation. It started back in February 2011, got mri in may, went for surgery in June. After surgery I felt ok for first day, then right back to how I felt prior to surgery. The pain is unbearable, can't sit longer then 10 minutes without intense pain. I could hardly walk, sit or stand. Just had 2nd surgery one week ago and I am right back in same position. I still can't sit, stand, or walk for long period of time. The pain is crazy intense. Tingling, pain, pins and needles, my foot feels like I had it in a freezer, so cold at times. I walk with a limp, drag my leg at times I noticed, foot feels numb like it is dead or something. I am at wits end, don't know what to do. I am still under Dr care, the only thing that dulled thepain for a bit is medicine. Once it wears off back to the intense pain. Please, any advise , help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,
I placed a copy of your post on our Spinal Disorders & Back Pain forum, they may have more specific help & suggestions for you - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...d.php?t=158450 |
Hi there, I hear your pain and can sympathize.
In 2007, I had a microdiskectomy at L4-L5 because of pain but that was nothing compared to last April. In April 2010 I had a disk fragment (break apart) and the pain was unbearable. I think unbelieveable is a better word. I thought I was losing my mind. I couldn't think, the pain was so intense and those awful feelings of hot/cold, numbness/tingling were so scary. I was just in panic mode 24/7. Only laying down relieved the pain and not always. I couldn't even be operated on because my spinal cord was so swollen, I had to be on 10 days of high does steroids before the surgeon would touch me. I have a drop foot because of it, my achilles tendon is pretty much not responsive on my left leg. But as much as I hate the drop foot, I'll take it compared to that pain. What kind of surgery did you have? Have you had an MRI since the surgery? Are they sure there are no fragments of disk left? Did they try to give you steroids to help the inflammation? That and Percocet were my saviors. Percocet really didn't help with the actual pain, but it did make me not care about it. But I felt great on the steroids. Have you seen a pain management doctor? I'm here if you need to talk! Carly |
