need quick advice on lyme disease and how it can affect one's dental health!!
 

does anyone know how lyme disease can affect one's teeth and overall dental health??!!

I'm still learning, just had a tooth removed and am having atypical upper teeth pain.

what i've read is avoid root canals, it is a dead tooth with no blood supply and the bacteria can hide in there. Antibiotics can't get to it. Also if one of your symptoms is chemical sensitivities that can affect what materials can be used in your mouth.

I would highly recommend getting a biological dentist, even better if they're lyme-literate.

If you go on lymenet and search in the medical section there are many with lyme dealing with teeth issues.

Hi.. I have been dealing with an extraction. You can read my posts. My extracted tooth was a molar that had a root canal done. 4 years later it got infected and had to be extracted. I was told that there is limited blood supply to root canal teeth and that could be why I had a dry socket from it and it to was upper. I hope you feel better. I really do.

Hi Nicole,

Just to help clarify... root canaled teeth are brewing infections right from the onset. Sometimes obvious symptoms are not noticed until a few months or even years following the procedure. So keeping that information in mind, it should be easier to understand how messed up that area of the mouth (and beyond) can become by the time that infected tooth is removed. Unfortunately, most dentists never offer that information to their patients prior to performing the root canal.......perhaps they should!!

Hi Bryanna,
Well saw the OS today and he says it looks really good, but he has to scoop out the inflammation in the socket. It has been too long. So it is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:45 am. He says he will not know how deep he needs to go until he opens the gum but he does not think it is going to be too deep. He says the OAF is closing cause the socket is closing. He said it should be about 10 minutes but it all depends on again how deep he needs to go. I am scared but it will be done and I will deal with it. I have turned into anger now and I don't want to be this way. I am angry at this whole practice for not picking this up and telling me earlier to see an OS when the hole was open and I expressed my concerns. I did not know about this stuff and they should have not dismissed me. This could cost me up to 750.00 and insurance does not cover it.
This is what happened.
Had tooth extracted went back later that day cuz it would not stop bleeding and he packed it
Went back the next day cause air was going up the socket and into my sinus
at that time I expressed this to the dentist and he dismissed me. I asked him for an antibiotic, I did not want any infections and he gave me augmentin 250 4x a day. He did not even know what to give me.
Went back the following day with the same concern and saw someone else and he did a nose blow test and said there was nothing there.
Went back the following Monday and saw another dentist and he said I had a dry socket and that if I had a sinus perf I would feel no pain
Then was regularly seeing the owner of the practice for a few weeks and expressed my concern and he did numerous tests and I told him on one I felt bubbles and he said he saw nothing.
I did not know until I went to the OS that there was a way to attack it through decongestants and antibiotics.
Finally after many many weeks he wanted me to see his OS and I went out on my own and used the one I used in the past. His OS was not able to see me for 3 weeks and it wasnt until i called and begged that they put me in, they squeezed me in at 815 two Saturday's later (that is the only day he is there) but i might have to wait a while. So then i went to see my guy and a confirmed OAF took place. At that time he did the decongestant and antibiotics and gave it time but time has run out and it needs to be cleaned.
I am so angry that they should have been able to tell me go see an OS even if we don't see it they are better equipped to handle this.
And then they fire the dentist? He was only there for 2 weeks when he extracted my tooth.
Do i have a right to be angry?

I can understand your feelings and appreciate what you have endured. Initially, it is best to take a wait and see approach if there is a minor sinus perforation. However, if the surgical site develops an infection within 2-4 days post op, like a dry socket, then intervention needs to be immediate.

I'm not so sure it was wise for the dentist to pack the site on the same day as the surgery because that may have caused the clot to malform contributing to the dry socket. The extraction site is suppose to bleed for a day... not ooze, but bleed. The initial post op instructions of an extraction are....the patient is to bite down on slightly dampened gauze for 35 to 40 minutes immediately after the extraction... not to move the jaw at all or squish down on the gauze for that length of time. When the gauze is removed if the site is still oozing, then this step is repeated. Most people will clot within one to three gauze applications like this. So you can see how packing the site at that crucial time could disrupt the clotting process.

Hopefully this surgical procedure will only be minimal and the site will heal quickly and properly.

I am so sorry you are going through this.... please try to channel your anger into positive healing thoughts.....I know this is hard.

Hi Bryanna,
Well I had the surgical debridement done and it went well, and very quick. I am a little sore but he checked the OAF by pushing up while I was numb and said he only feels bone so that is is closed... YIPEEEE !! It is healing nicely and I go back for a follow up on Wednesday.
Now.. Today as I was cleaning I felt something forming on the roof of my mouth back toward my throat. When I looked in the mirror I see this pimple there. It does not hurt it is just annoying when I swallow and it gets irritated. I called the OS and he said he will look at it next week and not to be concerned, it is not an infection it could just be a pimple. It is like sometimes when you get a pimple on you cheek or side of your tongue, this is on the roof of my mouth on the side of the surgical area towards the back. It is very far away from the site so I don't think they are related. Did you ever hear of this and if you have do they go away relatively quickly. It is so annoying when i swallow. UGGGG. One thing after another. Everything was going awesome, it is my Birthday on Sunday and I just was so happy to be able to be pain free FINALLY and now this. I hope you can give me some advice as to what it could be and do they usually just go away?

I go on monday to get an idea of what can be done to help me. I have three loose teeth in the same upper area. they had all been crowned. The dentist who put them in did not align my gums correctly and I developed pockets between the teeth. I do not have the money for implants nor will I ever. I am at risk for loosing my home. I have never had a tooth pulled, much less three of them. Can you heal correctly from this kind of proceedure without dry socket and all the other things? I am terribly afraid. I hate that this has happened to me especially because I had them all crowned in the first place. I already sunk alot of money into this area, including deep root cleaning and good oral hygine. I did everything I could to help myself and nothing worked. Is this going to be a terrible pain I have to go through, or can it go smoothly without alot of trouble. I get infections easily, hence my apprehension. I don't think that I can afford gum surgery eithor, and feel there is no hope for these teeth. Has anyone had to go through something like this? ginnie

The pimple like bump on your palate near the back of your throat can be what is called a mucocele. That is a slight opening into a salivary duct that could be caused by an irritation from trauma or something hot or sharp; or it's slightly clogged or has developed a stone. If it is not a stone and is filled with fluid, then it can usually be popped by pressing a q-tip against it. Once popped, it may fill up again immediately or not for several days or weeks....etc. Sometimes once you get one, it appears again and again randomly. Other times, it rarely appears. You can try to pop it... that's what I would do because it can get quite annoying.
