Hi,

Been there to, but was alone. Maybe an idea would be to make a schedule, like "who wants to chat on saturday PM GMT-5"?)...

Cheers
Karine

Hello Birte,

Er du Dansk? Jeg har boet i Denmark for fire aar.

(I ask Birte if she is Danish. I have lived in Denmark for four years.)

Sounds fine to me

Karine

Ih, hvor hyggeligt....

Hej Kariner, du har gættet rigtigt, jeg er dansker. ( and Kariner has guessed correctly, I'm a Dane).
I was born in Nordjylland, married a New Jersey'ite, and have lived in the US since 1959. We have just this summer sold our summer house on Mors. Until this year we have spent 3 - 4 months every summer on Mors.
When were you in Denmark? and where?
I'm biased, of course, I love Denmark. Did you like it? (in spite of the horribly high cost of absolutely everything).

Med mange venlige hilsener,

birte

Hej igen,

Yes, I liked it a lot in Denmark. I enjoyed the light (in fact, in the start, I found it nearly shoking because I wasn't used to be under this sort of light all the time, like having fallen into one of those Dutch paintings with a bright sky) and walked a lot.

I was first in Nordjylland (Skive) and later on Sjaelland. My mother has been a French teacher there during 3 years (when she came to visit me she liked it a lot and one day she decided to stay). She had a little house on the beach of the Baltic. It was great. I even saw the bay frozen once. She worked near Fakse. At that time I lived in Copenhagen.

All the Danes I know love Denmark. And what I like too is that they are simple people, easy to talk with. The first time I was there, to visit the school where I was going to study, I thought 'people are always smiling in this country, it's great!'.

Landscapes. There are very special landscapes. I remember, once, we were driving and under the sea-level. The sea appeared suddenly, like a bright blue wall (it was a nice day).

Later, I visited the rest of Scandinavia, and Iceland and the Feroe Islands.

God aften og venlige hilsener til dig og din maend. Jeg er glad at kunne oeve lidt. (Good evening to you and your husband. I am pleased to practice a little.
I nearly forgot : I was in Denmark from 92 to 96)

I have also visited the chatrooms and also found them empty (at least the Parkinson's room). Would like to visit chat when it is occupied,

Lloyd

Amazing!

I can't believe it, Karine - you lived in Skive of all places. Skive is my home town. I was born in Nørregade, grew up in Frederiksgade 3 - you can now buy curtains in what was my room, my grandparents lived in Christiansgade, and my much older brother lived on Galgebakken. I have most likely passed you on the streets of Skive in the summers you spent there.
I am so glad that you liked it. We will go back again and visit friends and family in the summers even though we have sold the house. I also love the light nights with the Solsort (Blackbird) singing and the Coocoo coocoo'ing, and unlike many people, I also love the winter darkness.
Tænk bare - det er virkelig utroligt, at det skulle være Skive.
(Just think, it really is unbelievable that it happened to be Skive).

Med endnu flere venlige hilsener,

birte

And burcle, please don't give up. I hope we all manage to meet in the chatroom soon.
