Saw Dr. Oh
I saw the doctor and he repeated a RNS and SFEMG that I also had 4 years ago. He said I had MG without a doubt . I cannot take steroids because of heartburn for long periods of time 24 hours a day so he added Immuran to my already taking mestinon. He upped my mestinon to 300-360 mg a day from 270mg a day. I sure hope this helps. I did not take my mestinon for a week prior to this visit for the SFEMG and now I can barely function. Will be glad when I catch up again. Hope the Immuran doesn't pose any problems.

I was on Imuran for 12 months along with 240mg of mestinon with a 180mg time release at night and just switched to Cellcept. During this period I also had IVIG treatments about every 2 months. Only results I saw was my double vision improved but I credit that to IVIG. While I was on Imuran I lost 35 pounds due to loss of appitite and nausea. I am now working on my second year of treatment. I hope the Cellcept helps. I did take Prednisone for 2 weeks but it gave me an attack of divertieulitis and ended in the hospital for 5 days.

Thanks for the reply pingpong man. I certainly hope the immuran works because I cannot afford the copay to have IVIG treatments. I only have medicare and do not qualify for medicaid and cannot afford the $400 for a supplement until next year when I turn 65. Right now I can barely move after being off my mestinon for a week for the SFEMG.

My neuro told me that Imuran takes 6-12 months to make an effect but mine never did. The only thing that helps me is Mestinon and the IVIG treatments. When my double vision got better he took me off IVIG to see if it was the IVIG or Imuran that helped. We discovered it was the IVIG. So now we are going to try Cellcept. Cellcept got a bad rap in 2008 but my neuro said that has since been proven wrong.
