Please advise,,,im losing control of my right arm...whats happening to me?
i have internal RSD. my abdomen is swollen and in pain. ok after 6 years im use to be mostly stuck in bed,
all of a sudden 3 weeks ago i was eating breakfast and couldnt get my hand to my mouth to feed myself with a spoon. so i thought i just slept on it wrong, or maybe it was getting weak from not being used enough. i started working out with light weights several times a week. it gets a little better when im lifting the weights, but then the next day it starts all over but a little worse. now im losing the full motor function of my fingers. im scheduled to have a nerve test tomorrow. i asked my doctor if it will be painful, but he said it would be memorable, he wouldt say yes or no to how much pain. what am i in for and what is happening to me? i dont want to be a victim! Lori love to all |
Lori,
If it's going to be like mine there's a little bit of pain involved. I don't want to be the messenger of bad news just being honest. The test, if it's the one I'm thinking of, involves the neurologist using needles wired to a computer with the purpose is to locate some nerves and short them out and others to force a slight muscular reaction. Imagine being stuck by a needle and the neurologist wiggles it slightly around locating certain nerves. If you can imagine that then you'll know what you're in for. It won't take long. I hope I didn't scare you... |
I had that nerve test and it stings a little in areas where you don't have RSD and is definitely noticeable pain where you have RSD. It wasn't as bad as cold water or a cold breeze or someone grabbing me in an area where I have RSD...but it did hurt so probably better to be prepared and know that going in. Not horrific so I wouldn't worry too much about it and hopefully it is useful in figuring out what's happening...but no spot lasts that long and if they are just checking your arms then it should be pretty quick (they checked all over my body and it took about an hour).

Horrific pain in my RSD effected arm. The testing was cut short for me... My doc advised against, but WC doc wanted documentation so I tried...
It can cause flares, and it wasn't safe for me to drive afterwards, so I had someone drive me to the appointment. |
thank you all. so like everything else RSD, nothing is the same for everyone.
now im not scared of the test so much, im scared i cant control ,my arm. I pray that all of you will be healed one day very soon! hugs and blessings Lori |

Thank you all for your well wishes.
im confused...heres my news: Well I may have some very good news to share about my health. I saw a new doctor this week who is in my pain management office. She did a nerve test on my arms. Then she did some tests on different parts of my spine. She thinks I may be mis-diagnosed and I might not have RSD! I am trying not to get over excited until we get more facts. She said that she has seen 3 other patients this year that have abdominal swelling and pain and more of my symptoms, That turned out to be caused by herniated disks and pinched nerves. the only hing that i can think of is this: In January 2005 i had emergency gall bladder surgery. right after the surgery i complained about pain and swelling in the lower right area of my abdomen. the gallbladder surgery, i was cut sort of in the top center of my abdomen. i was awake when i got on the operating table, but when i was taken to recovery i was asleep. because o me being very obese, could they have hurt/moved/twisted my spine to get me off he operating table? then 2 years later a plastic surgeon cut me from hip to hip to do a big tummy tuck on me. he thought cutting off the swollen tissue might make me feel better. well it made me 100 times worse! so more damage to my nerves. i dont know..time will tell. So I am going to go have a full spine MRI on October 26th and go forward. If she is right, I can be treated with injections And rebuild my muscles and maybe have a brighter future. in addition to RSD i am very obese which has been very stressful on my body. but being bed ridden has made it impossible to lose weight. im 48 years old, i have been with my hubby for 28 years. he stays home to care for me. the possibilities of the future of my health improving is overwhelming to imagine. we havent been intimate for 6 years since i got sick. we were always very passionate before i got sick. i could ramble for an hour, so i will stop here. i will let you know what happens after i have my follow up drs appointment on nov 7th. im looking forward to a Miracle, i want a miracle for you and your loved ones too! peace and blessings Lori |
Oh Lori, best of luck to you, and I hope your wishes can come true. Lisa
