scapular stabilization exercises that don't

elevate your rib

so i tried resistance bands again and my ribs went up. where did pts get the idea that this will help tos??????? have there been documented studies on them bc everyone's experience seems to be a massive failure. i am just glad i caught the sx early so i knew to stop.

i know everyone's different but i can safely say, that this exercises isn't provocative for me pain-wise. however six months ago, i couldn't do it. everything was snapping and cracking. if youre trying to strengthen and get snapping/thudding/cracking, definitely stop

i have done it with zero weights and a 2lb weight

i am on the prowl for a strengthening exercise that will be rib-safe and only strengthen my lower traps. hopefulyl my pt will have some ideas. if anyone has ideas, post away.

When you say your ribs went up, do you mean vertically towards your head, or horizontally as in they moved anteriorly?

Which of your ribs go up?

Also, what do you experience when they are up?

The reason I ask is that both my chiro and my osteopath have noted independently that my first and second ribs on my symptomatic side are shifted anteriorly and rotated out. They are trying to get them back in.

mspennyloafer 10-24-2011 06:56 PM

i honestly have no idea how my rib is shifted up, my pt just said it was. i feel a throbbing and scalene pain ont hat side and i dont like turning my head the opposite direction. i used to experience some tightness on the tops of my hands but that was only when it was at its worst.

this is my left (stronger side)

however my entire back looks like i have neuritis. its no wonder my neck hurts. its not pretty.

pain on the side of my face too. and dizziness

another tos test for me
is when your neck is feeling funky, push your shoulders back

when i used to do this i felt like i was going to vomit, so dizzy and just awful all over

amended. ive been reading about medial and lateral winging and i got the muscle groups confused. anyhoo. i am 90 percent positive i hurt my LTN multiple times? my sx were all over the place tho that's what confuses me.

my SA on my right side is actually stronger, i realized this today. it's the lower trap that's nonexistent and gives me dead arm. i have more neck pain on my left side (weak sa side) so i am still hopeful!!!!! eoiahyeoihy

Pushup Plus is very good way to anterior Serratus, takes alot of practice to get the technique right though.

I didn't know about pushup plus. Thanks. As with any exercise, it's on youtube.

mspennyloafer 10-25-2011 07:54 PM

i cant do those bc my head isnt stable on my neck, lol but someday i hope to

mspennyloafer 10-30-2011 10:49 AM

i can lift 5 lb weights now doing the first exercise woohoo!

my shoulders are still totally winged so i think now its becoming mroe of a mid (?) and definitely lower trap issue
