Sinemet side effects

Hello all,

I'm a newly diagnosed dystonia patient and my doctor has prescribed Sinemet for me. I know this is usually a Parkinson's medication, so I thought I might be able to get better feedback here :)

It seems to be working for my primary symptoms, but I have developed a few new ones and I think it may be a side effect of the medication. I did just get over a bout of flu and think maybe the flu medications I was taking may have interacted (even though the pharmacist said it was safe to take) I was taking pseudophedrine and Robitussin DM, along with Ibuprofen. I had terrible muscle pain and really weak legs, but am gaining strength back now.

I wanted to ask and see if any other Sinemet users have had issues of

1. hypersensitive hearing (everything sounds like it's echoing in my head, like the volume is turned up really loud, I've been stuffing cotton in my ears just to deal with it) Now, my sinuses are still a little stuffy from the flu, so I don't know if my ears are just still fluid-y or something, I haven't gotten to the doctor.

2. Back pain, particularly mid back along my rib cage, it's tight back there too.

3. Agitation. I was sort of agitated before but it's a little worse now. Dr. warned me about this and wanted to give me a benzo. to go with the medicine, but I balked at that. Now I might ask her for it.

4. Other involuntary muscle movements. I have dystonia and already have involuntary movements, but I have some new spasms/twitching going on now. My initial symptoms have all but disappeared though, but if I miss a dose, they come back, so I know the medication is working for them.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Carly

Carly-
I don't intend to be alarmist and this probably does not apply to you, but just in case-

A fairly typical history for PWP is a vaguely defined diagnosis that becomes clearer after a bout of the flu. This seems to be a result of the immune system being overly stimulated by the virus and a failure to respond properly to the "stand down" orders once the infection is under control.

If it were me, I would read up on turmeric and green tea extract for starters. A search of this forum will turn up a good deal of info. Again, it probably does not apply to you, but both of those are cheap and have a high safety factor.
