I have been reading great things about Benfotiamine on the internet and have just ordered some from the following website:

I plan to take 600 mg per day of this and would welcome any feedback from any members experenced with it.

Thank you!

It works for me! Thiamine you know used to be a treatment for
PN! it was bumped out by gabapentin unfairly.

Mrs. D. How much Benfotiamine are you taking? I am taking 150mg daily, along with methyl B12(1 l/2 mg) and R-lipoic 100 mg. Wondering if i should up my Benfotiamine. Thanks.

When I started it I used 300mg a day for a couple of months.

Back then I had alot of burning pain. Since I found some food triggers for the burning, and as the burning diminished and wasn't all the time, I reduced to 150mg a day. Doctor's Best.

This form of Thiamine is fat soluble and hangs around in the body for a while. The regular thiamine comes out the urine very quickly, within 4 hrs for me. I can smell it.

I think that once you get enough in your system to reach a steady state, you won't need as much.

But we have had posters here taking huge amounts. 600mg or more daily. For people with a history of alcohol abuse, heavy use or intolerance, Benfotiamine is helpful. Also one cannot know who has genetic problems needing more of this than others.

So go by your symptoms, whether you have diabetic issues, alcohol issues, etc. I think this works slowly, so don't expect quick results. You should know in a month or two if it is helping.
If it helps but you think more would be worth it, you can try that then. Or the reverse. I try to stay lower with most supplements if possible.

This supplement used to be very hard to get-- came from Germany, and was very very expensive, at one time. Now it is very affordable.

You can look up beriberi on the net to see if you have any hidden symptoms of that which would point to using higher doses of benfotiamine. I think it is more common than realized and doctors don't identify it in some people.

I have been using Doctor's Best Benfotiamine 150mg for about 2 months. I started with the Methyl Be 12, then added the R-lipoic and Benfotiame about 4 weeks later.

I did look up the Beriberi. There are a few symptoms - difficulty walking (cane for balance), swelling lower legs & ankles (take Furosemide 40mg and Spironolactone 25mg every a.m.)The edema started a couple of weeks after Cystocele Surgery, also developed Statsis Dermatatis following the surgery) and of course pain especially ankles & feet burning. My spine pain ongoing. Had spinal fusion along with laminectomey; had compression of a( very red angry nerve (doctor's term) about 5 years ago.

I do think the burning of ankles and feet has lessened somewhat since starting these supplements. Standing or sitting for any length of time aggravates the problem. I am thinking of trying the Benfotiamine twice a day = 300 mg total.
