Someday I will get a tablet!!

Hi all.

Hope you are all having a nice Thanksgiving. It's quiet by us. Just me and Alan. Last Saturday I was at relatives and they have all the latest cool gizmos. I got to show all of them my online youtube videos because they have an IPAD.

I fell in love with this gizmo.

I thought I wanted a laptop but now I know what I want. A tablet. There are many up for sale today at $99.00. I read the reviews. I have decided I want an IPAD. Or maybe the Samsung Galaxy. I still have much to read up (and much to save) before I get one of these things.

I just need to know one thing. Is the set-up the same as if I bought a laptop.

What I mean is, I get the router, hook up the modem to the router, then (as with the laptop) I configure the tablet?

Let's say that I get an IPAD. I buy a router, hook it up, then I go to the IPAD, and THEN WHAT?

You know me. I have to know what I'm doing BEFORE I do it.

Thanks much

Once I know that I have the details correct, then I can begin my plan of saving up for one. That way I don't have to yell at Alan to "get off the computer and give me a chance".

lol

Hey -

They are good... for some things.

Great for on the sofa, browsing the net.. watching some stuff on the move.

Not so great, for anything with typing, games etc.

You can do some cool stuff to it though I tihnk, and use it for all sorts of strange tasks if your techno inclined.

So, how does it work? You just connect it to your router via Wifi, like your laptop, or phone. Simples. :)

Melody, I just received an iPad as an early Christmas present from my husband. :) I absolutely love it! fewleh is correct; just connect through WiFi. If you are out and about it will search for other networks too. The user guide is something like 227 pages long LOL! But it is pretty straightforward and easy I thought. The Apple store has a lot of free applications too as well as IBooks. I just purchased and downloaded 3 books. Now that is what I love it for...reading. :) Anyway, there is a LOT you can do with it. I downloaded Mahjong (game) as well and it is very easy to see...very clear! There is only one thing I would caution you about which is iCloud. Basically used for syncing. But my email was being duplicated so I just dispensed with that since you can sync using iTunes. Anyway, enough of me. I am just saying it is a nice device to have if just sitting on the couch or as in my case, going for doctor appointments. I can read something other than Golf Digest LOL!

I just now noticed your reply. How funny, it's been weeks. Anyway, I used another IPAD at the beauty parlor where my friend worked. I don't like the way I had to type. I am MUCH more comfortable using a keyboard so I don't think I'll ever be buying a tablet. That's good for me because now I know it's not for what I need. It's nice for viewing videos but because I type a great deal, my thumbs would fall off. ROFL.
Anyway, thanks much and I'm glad you are all enjoying your tablets.
