SSD and comingling $$$$
Ok another question to anyone who may have an answer for me. I have heard if I have debt issues that it is wise not to comingle my SSD $$$ with any other $$$. I deal with a credit union here in NY. I have one checking account and 2 savings accounts, all accounts are under what they call a member # (that is my member ID # to the credit union) but each account has its own suffix #. I know this sounds bizzare I am sure, so here is an example.
My member # is 12345 checking account is 12345-01 savings acct #1 is 12345-02 saviings acct #2 is 12345-03 if I put SSD in one of the savings accounts and left all other money in checking account is that still considered comingling? Is this confusing? just thought I would throw it out there. I have signed up for a card that SS offers called Direct Express, which is like a credit/debit/Atm card, all $$$ gets put right on the card every month. But just incase I wanted to throw something in my savings account.....thought I would ask!!!:) |
Commingling only applies to the account in question. So, yes, you can have multiple accounts at a bank, and their activity is totally seperate. It would be best if the account you choose is in your name only and not a joint account, since these protections are only extended to you. --It might be argued having a joint account nullifies the protection.
