pec major
i overstretched i guess (??) my spine and/or my pecs
and bended my arms too much (>90 degrees) now my pec muscle feels awful and i have trouble bending and using my arm. there's a spot at the webby part over my arm pit that feels like NEEDLE. it is hott and like a really painful needle. i rub it out and it comes right back. does this sound like a trigger point? i am confused as to whether this is referred pain from somewhere else or a trigger point that just won't go away and hurts extra bad. anyone have this |
In the armpit area?
Could be a swollen/tender lymph node? If you can apply warmth and then a light stoking massage toward the core of the body, that is what will help if lymph node. for TrP - a constant pressure til pain fades, but they usually don't get hot...I don't think. What size it it, pea sized - or much smaller or bigger?? |
i pinch the area with my thumb, over pec major..covering my armpit. its like a thumbs length up and really easy to grab i dont think its a lymph node and if it is it is TINY or embedded in something. i only know ive hit it bc of the needle feeling.
the needly sensation is the best way to describe it. today my entire pec muscle just feels raw. maybe its a really really bad trigger point. i have a trigger point on my ribs nearby. this is the sharpest tgr pt i have ever felt. bending my arms irritates it |
Did you stretch too far or for too long?
I've learned the hard way that too long can be a real problem for me. The Joseph Weisberg PT book recommends 30 seconds for a stretch and (IIRC) never longer than 60. For me at least, looking back at overstretch injuries, it always seems to be the duration more than the actual stretch. |
i think its from irritating my ribs
i didnt stretch too long, but too hard on the foam roller i guess |

Right now I'm doing the Weisberg PT, Craig Williamson "Muscular Retraining..." book, some Egoscue and whatever my PT assigns me which includes that swiss ball sternal release stretch in two positions: arms out to the side and arms above. |
yeah i think its more inhibition that stretching
strengthening surrounding areas. like i know my spine is tight for a reason |
