Strange new symptom

I have been experiencing a strange new symptom the past few weeks.

My cell phone ring tone sounds just like a door bell, ding dong. If I hear a sound that is similar to the ding sound, I will hear a repetition of the ding dong sound for up to 10 seconds. Just about any ringing sound can cause this symptom.

Has anybody else experienced this symptom?

I believe it is neurological, not auditory. The repetitive nature is similar to when your brain gets stuck on a melody.

Mark,

Yes, I have this problem too! Any doorbell type of sound will play over and over in my head, perhaps a little different than what you describe, but the same idea. Mine is a similar to an "ear worm" (when a song gets "stuck" in your head).

It can be extremely annoying. How interesting that you experience this as well. Oh the strange things we experience with our PCS!!

Take care,

Nolefan

This happens to me as well. I'm not sure if it happened before PCS too and just got worse or it started after the injury...

I don't get the "ding dong" thing but I sure get songs suck in my head. OMG I thought it was just me. I notice that when I'm sort of at my limit (maybe just before the extreme pounding of headache or pain) I will get a line of a song stuck in my head. I was always curious if anyone else gets this ..but sort of embarassed to ask!

I get songs stuck in my head all the time - sometimes just one line from the song. It get annoying, drives me crazy.

The repeating ding dong just started.

I have had problems with looping for over 12 years. I can get the most mundane things stuck in my head. A license plate number, the spelling of a word, a line from a sing, can get stuck and g continue looping in my head for hours or even days. I take maximum dose paroxetine (Paxil) 60mgs to reduce the frequency of this. It makes a big difference. It reduces the looping to a level that I can tolerate.

Sometimes, I will get stuck with a bit of a song in a mode that I call Jukebox. I can switch songs to avoid the fatigue of the same song for hours. The song I switch to will loop until I switch (Jukebox) again.

I know that the brain identifies sounds by comparing them to a stored index of sounds. It is like that stored index of ding dong is turned on and left repeating for 10 seconds. The ding dong will keep repeating if the original bell like sound continues. It is like the ding sound from TV or such gets interpreted as ding dong.

Weird symptom.

Mark,

I'm so glad you made this post! I experience something similar and have since about 2 weeks post concussion. My boyfriend thought I was just being silly, but I really think the looping thing is what's happening.

If I hear a word, that is associated with a song in my brain, I'll get that line/stanza stuck in my head for hours. Ex. My nephew's pacifier is attached to plush duck that can be attached to his shirt. They therefore refer to the pacifier as his "duck butt." Someone said "duck butt' on Saturday and for the next 3 hours, I had a childrens song I taught in early intervention called "Ducks like rain" stuck in my head.

It's can happen to pretty much any random word, and if I've heard a song with the word in it, I'm stuck for hours.

It so good to know I'm not the only one who gets stuck!

not sure if this is the same or just similar, but I feel like I hear the doorbell ringing all the time-to the point I get up and go to the door. Yesterday I did it about 4 times. Of course, no one was ever there....but thanks for posting this!

I get reptitive thoughts going through my head

For a while I would get a few bars of a particular song looping in my head after listening to music (more than just the "song in my head" phenomenon that happens to all of us in normal circumstances). It could be Mozart, Bach, or some pop song - especially if I'd listened to it a few times. I would just keep repeating the bars to myself, half-consciously, off and on for a day or two.

This has gotten better as I've improved, but still happens a bit.
