Bungee Jumper for Special Needs Kiddies?
 

My four year old is non-mobile but loves any kind of jumping motion. I bounce with him on the trampoline (holding him upright) or just on my knee. He is now 37 pounds and getting kind of heavy for me:rolleyes: He is able to support himself on his legs, just has trouble with balance. Does anyone know of a jumper (the kind made for babies that attaches above a door) for special needs kids? I have seen the crossbars you can buy that support more weight than a door might, but have not seen the bungee jumpers made specifically for special needs kids,

I have not seen one of those bouncy seats for bigger kids but would sure love one for Langan. She is a big fan of bouncing!!

If your son can support himself standing, then the trampoline we just bought might be a great thing for him. It has a wonderful handle that is the perfect height for a 4 year old. Langan holds onto the handle and jumps like a wild thing. I bought it at One Step Ahead (Onestepahead.com). It's not a SN catalogue and the trampoline was about $200 cheaper than almost the same thing in a SN catalogue I have. It wasn't exactly cheap ($130ish) but we got it as a gift for Langan and she's getting her money's worth out of it.

Just wanted to throw that out there! I'll be keeping a close eye on the responses to your post, in case there is a bouncy seat I didn't know about!

Not sure what kind of disability yall are looking at but when Amanda was a baby they told us not to put her in something like that, or the walkers either. Because she would throw herself into extension and would just make it worse. Amanda has CP and is very spastic. If this isn't an issue for you.. and he might be walking or at least standing, I suggest the trampoline with the handle too. That looks like so much fun. And I know the OT where she went to preschool had one in her room. I wish we had been able to use one.

Tyler had one and loved it. I bougjht it through the Abilities catalog I believe. If you are interested, I will look through my files to be sure. He had a neoprene jumping vest which was held together with neoprene fasteners. There were four round hooks on both the front and back. These were attached to bungees straps that allowed him to jump and bounce. I have a picture of him in it if you would like to see it and if I can figure out how to put it on here.

Tamie, that sounds exactly like what I am looking for! I can't seem to find the Ability catalog you mentioned though. I would REALLY appreciate you seeing what you can come up with in your files,

Hi Angela. I have purchased so many devices over the years and luckily kept all of the receipts. What you are looking for is called a Teekoz Harness. We purchased it from Southpaw Enterprises, Inc. Their number is: 1 800 228-1698. When we purchased the unit, it cost $175.00 and was worth every penny. Tyler absolutely loved using it. The bungee straps were extra (go figure!), but can also be purchased through the same company. Get the double straps. They last much longer than the singles. Let me know how it goes.

Wendy, the device you mentioned looks great, unfortunately Sammy has such one-sided weakness he probably couldn't handle it, but thanks for the suggestion:)

Riley LOVE LOVE LOVED her "bungee" swing when she was little, she used it until she exceeded the weight limit for the baby ones.

We have gotten lots of stuff from SouthPaw and everything has been awesome. Our basement looks more like therapy than a basement :D Keeps ALL of the girls happy and their friends love to come over and swing on the swings we have copied from therapy.

The bungee is one we haven't gotten, mostly beacause I know the other kids wouldn't be able to resist temptation.

Tamie, I am a new user today and was looking online for one of the doorway jumpers. A parent of a child I work with has asked me for a doorway jumper for larger children. I can't seem to locate what you're talking about in the neoprene jumping vest. Please let me know more details so I may can order one or direct this parent.
