White Matter on the Brain

Hi Everyone--

I am new here and looking for others that are going through the same thing. We (my hubby and I) have two daughters--13 and 8. The 8 yr. old has had a few "oddities" since birth. We went to a genetic specialist when she was just ten weeks old. This specialist pointed out all of these "odd" things, but after MRI, blood work, etc. all was OK. (There were other doctors, but I don't want to bore you with all of the details!)

Now she is eight. She complained of headaches and our pediatrician ordered blood work (all OK) and an MRI. The MRI shows several white spots on her brain. The MRI report stated a dx of possible patchy leukodystrophy (hope I spelled that right). However, after seeing a peds neurologist last week, he stated that we need another MRI in three months for comparasion. Three months is a long time to wait.

This neurologist said that since she can (or is) still learning (reading, writing and math), that he didn't think it could possibly be the leukodystrophy. So what is the white spots?

I didn't state earlier--she is ADHD and takes 10 mg of Ritalin 2 times per day.

That's all I have for now.

Hi Marcy!

I just want to Welcome you to NT!
You've found the right place for great support and information. Although I'm not familiar with these symptoms your daughter is having, I know there will be others who do and you will get some wonderful feedback.

I'm sorry for what you are being faced with and I hope and pray that you can get some answers soon for your daughter.

Caring,
Rae
