Quick Question!

So I've been diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS). The symptoms are too strong for me to go back to work. I've only worked 2 years in my life with minimum wage jobs...will I be eligible for social security benefits? If so, how much do you think I'd be getting? If not, what else can I do? I've got 2 little ones that are growing up fast and I'm afraid if I don't ever get better I'll never be able to provide for them. I'm going to be a loser dad :(...

Yes - Due the fact that you probably do not have enough work work credits, you are do not qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). However, you can apply for Supplemental Social Security Insurance (SSI). Check out http://www.ssa.gov/pgm/ssi.htm

Only SS can tell you. However, the 2 years you were working you should have been receiving the Social Security Benefit statement booklet. You usually receive it around your birthday.

Go on public assistance
Collect food stamps
Get medicare especially for your children
Visit your local food bank
Visit your local social service office to find out any other type of program you are entitled to. Each state/county/city is different.

SSI is a little under $700 month. If you are going to apply I'd do so sooner than later because it can only pay back to date of application. If you are found eligible for SSI then it would be easier to get low income housing if necessary.

How old are you? And at what age are you claiming onset of disability?

If the 1984 in your name represents your birth year, you are 27 years old.

What is the date of your diagnosis? What is the date you last worked. How do you support yourself currently?

You start a claim at www.socialsecurity.gov and complete an online disability report. Be thorough. List all medical sources including addresses. You will need to finish the SSI claim in your local office. You will have to also bring proof of current income and assets and living arrangements. The decision may take six months. You may be approved. You may be denied if SSA finds that you are capable of a simple, repetitive job. You can file an appeal. You can hire an attorney.

But none of this will happen if you don't file a claim.

Have you had a neuro-psychological test done? Results from that test is what made my disability case.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I applied online and I'm going down to the office next week to bring in my medical records and what-not. Hope I get accepted :)...
