The price of apparel
 

So I guess I'm still in the 1980's (or maybe before) when it comes to clothing prices. Somebody the other day mentioned a company who carried clothes at modest prices, and I thought, "Seriously?" It's a place I rarely shop because of the high prices!

It occurs to me that the problem may lie with me! I'm so used to shopping on clearance, ebay, yard sales, or deep in my closet that I don't really know how much apparel costs any more.

I've found myself rarely buying clothes anymore. I have no need for "work" clothes......really no need for "dressy" clothes......the first things I tend to look at are lounge wear and sleepwear! :o

If I do buy things it's usually from the Denim & Company line with QVC.

I suffer from the same sticker shock. For the next month or so, watch for sales. This is the time of year to get things at a great price. Check online at places like Target or Sears. They're usually pretty reasonably priced when on sale.

Yes and everyone, even the so called bargain stores, is increasing their prices..:mad: I usually wait until the big sale or clearence.:cool:

I get most of my stuff at Kohl's, usually buy online for the best selection , then return it to the local store if a not right fit...
But I'm a jeans & T shirt/sweatshirt gal with a few nice sweaters thrown in for dressy.

I don't like to pay more than $24 for jeans, or more than $12 for a T shirt. less is always better LOL
$54 is about max for my sneakers, they have to be comfortable, the cheaper ones just don't fit me right.

So right about cheaper items not fitting right. I've regretted buying cheap stuff and then hating every minute I wear it, always tugging and straightening, etc.

We're two hours from any department store...I don't think Vermont even has a Target, maybe a Kohl's in Burlington. An hour and a half to Walmart, and their clothes are, well, you know.

I have a confession to all of you about cloths. I found a place to shop most people don't think about. Good will. It does take time, and not every adventure can you find something. However, you do find name brand clothing gently used for a fraction of the price. I found a beautiful wool dress from Paris, and paid $6.99. I had it dry cleaned, and it is the nicest dress I have for the winter season. I don't get shoes, underchoths etc, but for jeans, that look used brand new anyway, I have found every brand under the sun. It is a search to do it, but the rewards of that cheap good find to me is worth the trouble to look. Give it a try, you may be surprised. ginnie

Oh, yes I totally agree, most of my coats & jackets & some sweatshirts are from thrift stores:D

Love finding a name brand that has barely been used.:D
My mixer & bread machine were thrift store finds. totally clean and new looking.

I haven't found as much good stuff since the economy changed- before that we found all sorts of nice furniture, appliances and household things.

I buy all our Levis at Goodwill or from ebay. Tee-shirts, sweats and tank tops from Walmart for super cheap on sale. Scrubs from the outlet and regular work clothes from an outlet store usually Banana Republic.

I'm too cheap to pay full price for clothing when I know it will be on sale soon. :D

Hi jules, glad to hear others shop good will. Try looking for sweats in the off season, like in summer. Also look for winter cloths in the summer. People clear out their closets at those times. I find most in the off season. ginnie
