Can antidepressants cause hydrocephalus?
Hi,
I have just started taking Citalopram 20mg, an antidepressant for moderate depression. I was born with hydrocephalus and have a shunt in place which is placed under the skin in my skull. I was wondering if antidepressants like Citalopram can cause hydrocephalus/shunt malfunction as I have been experiencing "twinges" at the back of my head. Like, momentary headache pressure pain. It may just be the anxiety from the med kicking in as a side effect so I may have nothing to worry about. I just want to put my mind at rest. Thanks. |

Not completely related to your topic, but I was curious. I have Hydrocephalus with a VP shunt. My question is can stress cause shunt failure symptoms, mainly pain along the shunt tract? I know it can cause the nausea and the headache. Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you.

Get your shunt checked, ASAP!!!!!!
1. You *have* to be born with Hydro.
2. I've had a VP shunt, since, I was born. I'll be 45 in February. 3. Again, I had my 1st shunt put in when I was born. It lasted until, I was 9. That's when I needed a revision. I had *all* of the symptoms, you described!! Also, you *have* to be born with Hydro. Get yourself, checked!!! Phyllis  |
