Lexapro insomnia, loss of appitite

I was put on Lexapro recently and found it a great help in depression, anxiety, focusing, slowing my racing thoughts. It was amazing.

BUT, I developed insomnia on top of not being able to sleep. Correction, I could sleep about day break when it was safe, I could sleep all day...just not at the traditional time.

On the lexapro, the problem was I was exhausted, I so much wnated to lay down and fall asleep, but my bodyt would not let me fall asleep. No racing thoughts, just physical sleep would not come. I also could eat only bites. Nothing appealed, I knew I had to eat something.....

I didn't take it one day and the next day I only took a half....5 mg, so I will see if that helps.

But I wondered if any others had this horrific insomnia and inabillity to eat on it? Would it be a side effet that will eventually go away. Keep trying to reduce the dose, give up, switch.

Paxil Prozac were no good, night murderous terrors. I was on Effexor, but did not help like Lexpro did. Was the short time I was on it enough to break the cycle?

Any thoughts?
Dianne

I don't have any experience with any of those meds except prozac which sent me manic.
I just wanted to tell you that I feel for your not sleeping...IT really does suck to not be able to sleep.
I am sending you some pixie dust to perhaps ease your nind a bit to be able to sleep better, have you tried the warm baths, wawrm milk or tea and soothing music or mindless reading to help.

Di, did you just start the sleeping at daytime and all nighters when starting the anti-depressant? Can you read up on the side affects or call the drugist and ask him? I'm almost certain the tiredness will get better as anti-depressants do tend to make a person tired at 1st. I hope you are sleeping now.

Dear DiMarie,
Sleeping is so crucial to feeling ok about our days. I wish that you had the right med. :Zzzz:

I don't have any experience with Lexapro. I suppose that you already tried taking it at different times and already checked with the psychiatrist.

Sleep soon.
M.

update

Thanks everyone,
I am taking med in the early part of the day.

I was staying up until daylight or at least 3:00AM prior to antidpressant.
Then would take a nap for the morning/afternoon. I had a chronic fatique problem going on, I guess from the pain and injuries, trying to work drained me.

On the med, I just never slept, I would try, I would yawn nonstop, looked like crap, but sleep would not come.

I went off on Saturday and did finally fall asleep. I got my appitite back too, also I had been having hot flushing and sweats, that day I did not have any

Sunday I took 1/2 pill....I slept about 6 hours, woke in a sweat. I think I am going to try just a 1/4 or 1/2 pill for this week.

The website did say some insomnia side effects, but effects should go away after taking it for a while...
I do not feel so depressed on it, my anxiety level is nil' on the full dose, a little rappid heart beat on cut dose.

See what today brings, if I do not have to nap that will be great. I have so much to catch up on! Be great to have energy!

I didn't like Lexapro. Racing angry thoughts.

I sounds like you found a solution though. Slow titrate up and watch the symptoms of the side effects. Smart lady! ;)

No experience with Lexapro here either, but it sounds like it got a little better with the lower dose. I wish you the best of luck in finding the theraputic level you need to get to and be at for things to be balanced. It sounds like it is working for you though and that's good. :)

Both me and my husband are on Lexapro. Todd takes it in the morning because it gives him insomnia and I take it at night because it helps me sleep. So I think it depends on the person.

Hi,
I was on Lexapro awhile back. I do believe I took it in the morning though.

I don't remember a loss of appetite, but that could just be a side effect that will go away, not sure.

Hope you get lots of good nights sleep!!!!

I experienced insomnia on Lexapro too, so you're not alone.
