how long have had PN

In July 2011, i had an accident which caused a fractured t12 and i had surgery to repair. The bones are healed however now i'm dealing with the actual injury...the after affects.
i do not have much movement in my right ankle/toes. my right calf/hamstring is VERY weak. i have a numbness-like sensation in my feet. Overall very little muscle in my lower body. I have swelling in my ankles at night when i've spent most the day on my feet.
I have bowel & bladder problems...was suggested by my urologist just today that my best bet is to take vesicare and cath at least 2 times a week in order to decrease likelihood of infection (i did a urine sample before my appt and have bacteria present...given more antibiotics!). I see a gastro on thursday.
Any suggestions welcome...tips/experiences/pros/cons/etc...
Thanks in advance

Some drugs used for urinary tract infections cause neuropathies.

Cipro and Macrodantin.

I would use cranberry extract liberally and some find d-mannose works too.

Continued use of fluoroquinolones like Cipro kill off Oxalobacter bacteria in the bowel. These complex oxalates out of the food we eat, and when that fails, the oxalates are not handled well by the kidneys and one can get calcium oxalate stones. Doctors don't often know this, so their patients pay the price later on.
