Labs

Hi Mrs D. and anyone else who may have some input.

I appear to be in some sort of flare up right now. Is it wise to try having new labs drawn while this is going on? If so which would you recommend. Since I have SFN and they believe it is autoimmune. I am thinking SSA & SSB, ANA, B12, Magnesium and thyroid labs, RA factor, Sed rate. I am going to call my family doctor to see if he can give me a slip for them so I would appreciate any suggestions. I don't know if anything will show but my mind says it may be worth a try. What do you think?:(

Magnesium doesn't show much. But you can do it anyway.
Only really low or really high mean much...with a broad "normal" in between.
That broad "normal" could still reflect you need some.

Definitely do the RA and Sed Rate. When was the last B12 you had? if ever? I've had two negative RA and Always elevated Sed Rate of around 25... always. I've also been always neg on ANAs.

Definitely do the others. Perhaps Glenn could give additional advice. I am not an expert on labs.

I would do the IgG, IgA and IgM. If IgM is elevated that would be of interest.

When did you have testing before? If you are taking B12 now it will reflect that.

I am not taking B12 since my doctor told me not to. My last B12 was a while ago. Thanks for your help. I'll see if Glenn or anyone comes up with any others and then I am calling my PCP.

As long as they are going to draw labs, it never hurts to get a CBC & CMP (or BMP). Autoimmune disorders can affect blood counts, so might be a good idea to check (if you haven't had them done in a while).

I spoke with my PCP's office and they said they will ask the doc to write a lab slip for me tomorrow. I can go on Friday. Thanks again!
