what brand of sinemet do you use
I am unhappy with the sinemet that have been been changed to. I had been using 25/100 mfg by BMS but when they were taken over by Merck I was switched to Mercks brand and it sucks. I get only marginal relef of my symptoms (tremor, freezing, poor balance and stiffness). BMS sinemet worked very well for me but Merck no longer provides it. So I'm looking for another brand or generic form of Sinemet. What Mfger do you you use and how do you like it? Thanks in advance for your help with this.

25/100 sinemet 480 tabs per month $70.00 copay each month, i don't know how much they cost without insurance . will have to try to remember to ask manufactured by Merck, Sharp & Dohme forgot to add that i'm satisfied with it. |
Thanks Paula,
My bottle only shows Merck as the mfg, the pills only have 650 with no line. I called Merck and ask about Merck Sharp and Dohme and if they are a different formula but did not get a satisfactory answer. I usually get three hours of relef from BMS sinemet but with the Merk pills I barly get 2 & 1/2 hours and they stop working. I wonder if they are a different formula? Geraldo |
All Sinemet alone does for me is nothing more than give me non stop dyskinesia, and severe muscle cramps, or nothing at all, and it's about as predictable as the stock market
Stalevo 200's and Mucuna are the only stuff that works for me |
Geraldo, Have to agree with Steve, after a few years on Sinemet only, and getting increasingly shorter periods of on time once put on entacapone (also called Comtan, Comtess, and one of the combination of drugs in Stalevo) things got better and I regained some time. This is not unusual. Entacapaone gets more levodopa to the brain, and because it hangs around longer in your system you also get an increase in 'on' time.

i split the teva 25/250 generic
ndc 0093-0294-01 kicks in within 30min, works great at removing brain fog, rigidity. unmedicated i'm a shuffling old man, well medicated i can ride a bike, do everything but move really fast, muscles still too tight, i prefer not to be medicated to that level. i take 1/2 50/200mg generic ER from SUN 2hrs later, then 2-3hrs later take 1/2 teva 25/250 and taper off, maybe another 1/2 ER and 1/2 normal release. kind of screwy i admit but gets me thru the day. trying to take as little meds as possible. i take 5mg selegiline in the morning every other day. just don't want to become addicted. why not just increase your dosage? you might be getting worse and need more meds? or like i suggested before, try the brand name, there must be some way to get a 3 day's supply. my experience is i suddenly getting worse, not slow and gradual. so that might make you think it's the meds. be creative. haven't we gone over this in a previous thread? |
Sun Pharma works for me
10/100 by Sun Pharma works well for me and i also use 25/100 by Caraco Pharma also works beautifully...i take the very minimum dose i can and cut back when I can (always in the Spring) - md

Thanks, for your input. maybe I expect to much from sinemet. I did not know that it would be less efective with time .I was dgn'ed in 2001 and have been on sinemet for about seven to 8 years. I have used some add on's but always went back to sinemet only. 2 tabs every 3hrs 25/100. I have shortened the time to 2 1/2 but its still seem marginal. I'll see my neuro on Monday. I let you all what she says. Thanks again
