I'm New!

I'm new here. Let me start by telling you about me. I'm 22 years old and I have been diagnosed with BiPolar Disorder, ADD, and ADHD. I have two little boys and I just recently lost my fiancee, or well he broke up with me see he had mild TBI/PCS. I think its because of my bipolar that he left me, I have bad mood swings and can't control my anger.

I'll be happy one minute and then one small thing will make me mad and after i yell and what i wanna say i forget what i said and I get happy again. I'm trying to get help and change but i can't see a psychiatrist till next week and I really need someone to talk to bout my bipolar and how to control it without being drugged up. :(

Hi Princess and WELCOME! :D I'm glad you found us! I'm awfully sorry that your fiance' left you. It seems he was quite ignorant about BiPolar -- he could have at least waited until you'd gone to see a therapist a few times. He should have read up on it too!

Hopefully you'll find someone better for you. ;) In the meantime I wish you the very best of luck with your new therapist!

There is a BiPolar board here. Just go to the bottom of the page where it says "Forum Jump" and scroll down until you find "BiPolar" and click on it. You'll find plenty of great people there. ;)

Again, Welcome --- God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your situation with your fiance. You asked abut how to deal without being drugged up. My stepson has bipolar disorder and the medication piece is critical to his treatment. It did take some time, but with good communication with his doctor and psychiatrist, we were able to fine tune this. Of course as the body changes, we have to continue to fine tune.... hormones and all!
But just the small amounts of meds he takes increases his quality of life dramatically. And that is what it is all about -- quality of life!
Try some relaxation techniques to get you through the week. My stepson can "feel" a mood coming on and he retreats for a while to cognitively get it under control. Perhaps this can work as well.
Best of luck!

Hello Princess!

Welcome to NT!

I'm so glad you found us! You'll be amazed at how many others battle this. The Bipolar forum is absolutely wonderful and you'll fit right in - lots of very caring understanding people here.
I haven't been diagnosed with bipolar per se, but I have battled similar symptoms with my anxiety/depression and I know how much this can affect our lives and relationships. I'm so glad I ended up seeing a psychiatrist. It really has helped alot. I was leary about it at first, and didn't want to get put on a bunch of meds that would dope me up. I was surprised, tho, that the meds she did prescribe had a very subtle effect and after a couple of weeks I could plainly see that they were helping.
By being under the care of a doctor and having this site to come to, I feel that I've been able to get my life back and I'm in control of 'me' now.

It's great that you are here! Please let us know how your first psychiatrist visit goes. In all honesty, my first visit wasn't that fantastic and it actually felt a bit awkward, but if you relax into it, I really think it can bring great benefit.

You aren't alone in this and you've certainly got friends and lots of support here!

Caring,

Rae
