3-6 mm aneurysm
 

Has anyone here ever had a 3-6 mm aneurysm done anything surgical to? These surgeons do not seem to know how to do anything else, but it hasn't done anything except just stay there the same little thing.

Do surgeons ever wait and see if something is broke first?:eek:

Welcome to NT, I hope u find the answers that u are looking for. The first thing I supose that needs to be asked is where the annie is, wot size and type of annie.
I have 3 annies ranging from 2mm to 7mm. I have 2 that are in a high risk area and Im 1 week out from seeing my surgeon.
Yes there are many people who have small annies that are on a "wait and watch" program. Unfortunately aneurysms arent something that can just be left as rupture can be devastating. Always best that they are discovered and dealt with before that happens.
Back to your question, yes there are many people who have had 3 - 6mm aneurysms "dealt" with thru coiling or clipping.
Im certainly no expert and I have only recently discovered mine after a series of incidents that were directly related to the annies.
Good luck, do some research n reading, there is an endless supply of information. And ask plenty of questions. I was sent to The Brain aneurysm Foundation site which is a great source of information.

The main problem with these little nasties is that when they do break, the consequences can be catastrophic and can cause death or permanent disability.

Many people are out there with an aneurysm and they never know about it. Some live their entire lives and die from other natural causes..... but......statistically, even small ones can rupture and be potentially deadly.

They often just monitor them until they reach 7 mm (or change in some way), but it is a ticking bomb. It should be at least monitored and you should be under the care of a specialist.

My unruptured aneurysm was only 5 mm when I had it clipped. The doctor showed my photographs taken during surgery and told me that I had been very lucky and it would have only been a matter of time before my kids found me dead on the floor.

I don't mean to scare you, but if you have been lucky enought to find this monster before it has 'found you' then you should really think about the options your doctor/surgeon gives you.

You doc will consider your age, general health, size, location and type of aneurysm. If you don't like the advice you are given, you should seek a second opinion.

Some procedures are more invasive than others, so make sure that the one you choose is right for you.

I have a couple of annies that besides being stented and clipped continue to grow. I tell people that They should not make me angry because "I have an exploding head and I'm not afraid to use it."
I can recommend two books for more information. "Brain Aneurysms" by Dr Robert Spetzler and "Brain Aneurysms and Vascular Malformations" by Dr Eric Nussbaum. Both are written for patients and family, non science types and give you a better understanding of what's percolating.

Come here for support and some answers. There is coiling, stents, clipping. I wish there was a medical duct tape. Don't let your Dr gloss over things. Keeep pressing for answers and have them explain it in a non-technical way if possible. (ie "the brain is shaped like a boxing glove") Or as I refer to it; the "Circle of whatchu talkin bout Willis?" OK, I'm dating myself with that.

I just had another angeogram for it last week. They say its okay still at 5-6mm. and want to go in again in 6 months, I just wonder why so offer. Itsnt going in so often dangerous?
