NeuroTalk Could be Shut Down
Please folks, go to Wikipedia or Google, and read the articles they are directing us to.
This matter affects ALL OF US. If SOPA and PIPA are passed, it could result in the shutting down of NeuroTalk, Youtube, and many other user-contributed sites on the Internet. Pages relating to these discussions are NOT being blacked out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...ive/Learn_more https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/ |
Ummm, no. Please don't spread alarmist stuff about these things, as that's not as helpful as people simply reading the legislation or a summary of it themselves, and coming to their own conclusions.
Neither NeuroTalk nor Psych Central would ever face being shut down by any act of a single government. The world's a big place, and if need be, we would simply move our hosting services to another country. As it stands, a few days ago, the White House announced it would not support the current legislation, so it's dead in the water. With the news media coverage of the issue today and other legislators also backing down, these bills now have zero chance of becoming law. The problem isn't these bills -- it's the lobbying interests that created these bills in the first place. That's what people should be angry about, and be angry to their legislators and anyone who supported these bills in the first place. Best, DocJohn |

Reading the articles and legislation is all I asked, and it is those articles that make the point and explain how the legislation could be used to curtail the free exchange of information on sites like this by shutting them down. I generally support the President's policies, but sadly, he has backed down/compromised from things he's said before, and while it doesn't happen often, Presidential vetos can be overridden by 2/3 vote of Congress. I truly hope that you're correct about these bills having zero chance. I hope everyone can appreciate that it was in the interest of preserving sites like NT that I posted in the first place. Thank you. Doc |
