phosphatidylserine and choline-inositol

A neurologist suggested I try phosphatidylserine and choline-inositol. I'm not making a reccomendation to others on supplements
to take. I'm just curious if anyone has taken these and do they help?

My mother bought me some vitamins that contain Phosphatidylcholine, Phosphatidylinositol, Soy Lechitin, Linoleic Acid and Linolenic Acid. Not sure if that's the same thing.

I haven't started taking them yet...I was going to do some research on it and make a post here to see if anyone knew about it.

Trying to figure out how to pronounce them made my head hurt.

Choline is basically vitamin B-4. Inositol (Vitamin B-8) is available in Lecithin. Both would likely be in a B-Complex such as the GNC B-Complex and many multi-vitamin in a lower dosage. If you are on a B vitamin oriented supplementation regimen, these will likely be included.

Inositol has show anti-anxiety properties in very high doses, 12 to 18 grams per day. Most of the online information appears to be of foreign origin. The translations are severely lacking. Sounds like maybe Chinese was the original language.

Years ago, my doctor recommended I consume lecithin as a supplement. Lecithin is used in many food preparations as an additive to prevent fat separation (an emulsifier). Check some food labels.

Choline is the precursor for phosphatidylserine.

Choline is plentiful in egg yolks.

Choline helps with cellular membrane integrity and repair, and is useful. In fact it has been added to some children's vitamins!

Some breads and pasta are choline enriched now too, so read your labels.

It cannot hurt to take extra. The phosphatidylserine tends to be expensive though, so you might want to think about that.

DHA--- from fish oil is also very critically needed for brain repair. This one I think is the most important. (Choline is more common in food).

There is a large margin of difference in female/male conversion of Omega-3 linolenic acid from flax. Males do not convert to long chain EPA and DHA much...I've seen 4% stated in one study. But females, who need to make DHA in quantity for fetal development will convert up to 24% . So males who need repair in the brain would do better, when supplying DHA during recovery. You can get this from cold water fish, like salmon, or take a supplement. There are many supplements to choose from today, including 100% vegetarian ones even.

I take a lot of supplements. All were approved or recommended by my neurologist.

I do take phosphatidylserine and CDP Choline and I've wondered if they help at all ... I've been taking them for months. And then the other day I forgot to take them and I totally noticed the difference and took them right away when I could.

Since then I've been wondering if I should take the maximum dosage allowed because I have been taking just the minimum dosage.

What dosage are you taking? What is the maximum? Of which?

I don't think there is a maximum dosage of Inositol, though it can cause digestive problems in high doses (mostly mild indigestion, diarrhea, and gas, but you should double check this). As Mark said above, there are double0blind controlled studies showing that Inositol can help to treat depression, anxiety, and OCD, though very high lefels are required. For anxiety and OCD, you need around 18 or 20 g/day, while for depression I think the number is closer to 9g/day. To take it in these quantities, you need to buy the powder, which isn't cheap. Capsules come in much smaller doses, like 500mg, and you can get Choline/Inositol combo capsules. I don't know what sort of dosage is considered therapeutic for treating brain injuries.

I'm not sure about PS. I've been taking 100 mg/day and I think it has helped with memory and mental clarity. I'm going to try increasing my dose and seeing if it helps more.

I'm taking Phosphatidylserine and CDP Choline as well as many other supplements that I think I've listed in other threads.

Jarrows Formula Phosphatidylserine 100 mg softgels as seen here:

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/e...ci_sku=JF-7119

The bottle says take 1-3 a day, and I've been taking one a day for months and on occasion now I'm taking two a day.

Jarrows Formula CDP Choline 250 mg capsules as seen here:

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/e...ci_sku=JF-7102

Again, the bottle says take 1-2 daily and I have been taking one a day for months, but took two today to see if I notice a difference.
