This is going to sound weird but...
Yesterday, I had a pretty decent day. It was the first time in months I was able to hold conversations without stuttering, searching for words and spacing out. It was great. I realized about halfway through the day that I didn't take my vitamins. This is the first day in months (since I started taking them) that I forgot to take them.
So, fast-forward to today. I didn't get that much sleep last night...if any at all...but when I "woke up" I had a conversation with my sister. I wasn't foggy, it was easy to get out what I was saying, etc. I took my vitamins...BAM!! 10 minutes later, brain fog. I can't talk without stuttering, I can't come up with ideas and things to say, spacing out...what the heck? My whole mind-state changed in a negative way after taking the vitamins. Is it at all possible that one or all of these vitamins I'm taking are causing this? I started taking B12, One A Day and Vitamin C in late October or early November. That is when the brain fog while playing video games, being on the computer and watching TV started. I didn't add the Omega 3 and B-Complex until recently, so that wouldn't be the problem. So again...is it AT ALL possible that the vitamins are doing this to me? I've absolutely never heard of vitamins having a negative effect on someone...unless they overdose or they are allergic to one of the additives/fillers in the vitamin. What are your thoughts on this? |
It could be that you are sensitive to something in any one of your vitamins. There are a variety of binders and bulking agents in vitamins. I doubt it has to do with an overdose situation.
This also could just be a coincidence. If you will list the vitamins including the brands, I can look into the label ingredients and see if any are common allergens. I have the same ups and downs day to day and have tried to find a connection to my meds, vitamins and any other variables. I could find no correlation. |

Spring Valley Natural C Vitamin 1000mg with Rose Hips This is the vitamin I took and then 1 hour later I ended up going to the ER after becoming extremely foggy and unresponsive. Haven't taken any sense: Puritan's Pride Premium Triple Strength Concentrated Ultra Lechithin 1200mg (420mg Phosohatidylcholine) |
Just as a warning, the type and brand of vitamins and the way they are produced doesn't necessarily mean they're good for you or that they get absorbed correctly. Many vitamins out there keep their capsule form without dissolving completely.
I would stop taking them or switch to another brand. Even with my own high-quality, potent vitamins (I take Nutrilite) I had to stop for a while until my brain had time to adjust, then I took them only periodically. Now I'm able to take full doses because my brain has recovered just enough to process the energy that comes from the supplements. I take a lesser dose if I start the day badly. |

Try different doses and brands until I feel my body is absorbing it correctly? (This statement is not for someone with a weak stomach): When I had the flu a few days ago, I threw up the thick, enteric capsule that my Omega 3 supplement is covered in...it was weird. Talk about not dissolving correctly :eek:. |

Also think about nutrition - what you eat. the healthier you eat, the better, meaning less processed foods and more natural foods (not necessarily organic). Fewer starches, more protein and greens. I think one of the major reasons why I'm healing so quickly is because I take in the proper nutrition. |

Don't take Vitamin C on an empty stomach. It can hit the blood brain barrier too hard and weaken it. B6, B12 and Folic acid strengthen the blood brain barrier. The blood brain barrier is a amazing system that shields the brain cells from many of the toxins from the rest of our body and some foods we eat. When this blood brain barrier is weak, those toxins can negatively effect the brain. A simple way to check the solubility of vitamins is to put them in a glass of warm water (body temp). You will be able to watch them dissolve if they do. Calcium tablets are know to be tough to dissolve. Sewer plant workers see them in the sludge. You can also try putting them in vinegar to simulate stomach acid. I'll check out the vitamins you listed further tomorrow. My best to you. |
Just a thought too - have you had an allergy panel done?
Before the accident I was not allergic to any food, but I was soy intolerant (which means it hurt my stomach if I ate too much of it). After the accident I was getting skin rashes and more asthma attacks than before... My Dr. gave me an allergy panel and low and behold I'm allergic to wheat now! Wheat (or some other gluten source) can be found inside some vitamins because it is used as a binder to glue the little suckers together. :D |
