A great pain doctor.

I am a 66 year old male forced to retire 16 years ago from chronic incapacitating chest pain. This pain was relentless and related to esophageal hyperalgesia; it may also have been related to my Diabetes and the associated neuropathy, also?

In any event, It became so unbearable that my wife and I, besides seeing the regular local doctors, began making appointments across our country with the well known hospitals at Mass. General, University of Iowa, Ford hospital, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic, there were many more! I saw more than 20 different sub specialists physicians related to my chronic pain. No one could give me any significant relief in this unbearable pain.

Finally and ironically I was told of Dr. Joshua P. Prager at the UCLA medical center; I live in southern Calif.!
After a very thorough, exhaustive evaluation, he strategized a combination surgical and medical plan which has given me 70- 80 % relief in my chronic intractable misery.

This was 10 plus years ago and I am still seeing him quarterly. He implanted a pain pump (intrathecal) along with oral medication for break through pain.

I find him to be a very unique, brilliant, diagnostician who has been an empathetic and dedicated physician. His office and he personally have always been there for me throughout the years.

In conclusion, I recommend Dr. Prager to anyone suffering with chronic pain. Without finding him, I doubt very seriously whether I would still be alive today? He has really given me a new life!

Can you provide us with more detail about your esophageal hyperalgesia?
Threads below tell what happend to me. I'd like to know how everything started and what you tried. Mine started in throat then moved to chest and then moved to back, neck, and shoulders.
