Are you "sort of" prepared?

If one depends on electricity alone for heat and trucks alone for what you will be eating in two months from now .. are you prepared?

Can you cook with wood and natural gas if a storm etc. knocks you off the grid. How many hundred pounds of beans, potatoes, corn meal, flour and the salt, cooking oil, chilies, cumin, yeast and baking powder do you have on hand?

When E.R., Doctors and Life Flight have not existed for a spell .. will your Echinacea and Yarrow (stops swine flue, colds, congestion), Mullein (weed - worlds finest decongestant - green tea 20 min soak), Capsicum (blocks heart attacks and stroke) .. stores .. be a blessing to you and your neighbors?

Do you know how to build a clay brick .. wood fired .. baking oven for you and the hood? Get it to 500 degrees and cook several loads of eight loaves at a time and then cook stews after it cools of a bit.

With food grade 55 gal. drums at $18 .. how many do you have full of water? One drop of chlorine will disinfect five gallons of water.

Will you have a shelf full of pop, chips and dip that will run out in two days?

A major war in the Near East oil fields could mean ICBMs, riots in the streets, no infrastructure outside what you have prepared for.

My friend was seven years old, just moved to Germany when WWII broke out. It isn't talked about to this day .. but the unprepared were in the streets shooting each other for a week or so and then things quieted down. Perhaps 5% of all Germans died in this panic .. thousands.

I prepare for cyclones/hurricanes.

The day I start preparing for ICBMs is the day that I no longer wish to live on this planet.

Hi Kamas Prairie

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I had to stop by and say hello. Your post is something I guess we all need to think of. Unfortunatly, our world is a scarry place. I live in a hurricane evacuation zone. I am prepared for that, and I go through that prep every spring. Getting by longer than a couple of weeks would be terrible to experience. We have friends inland, we have talked about grouping together, maybe 10 of us. Climate change has effected all of us too. Many things to think about, not just all of our health issues. We also know people who do live in NC deep in a remote part of the mountains, they are farmers, and have a working ranch. We have all talked about this at some point within our family. We must hope and pray the world stays peaceful, and that reason will prevail over all. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't pray for peace, as well as all the health issues we carry. This is my hope.
"No one will demean or in anyway violate the sanctity of another creature. Every barrier that presents or limits intimacy between us will be removed for all eternity. We will be healed of all brokenness and distortions" I have it pinned in the board in front of me. ginnie

I'm with Lara - I'm out of here. Carpe Diem.

That was an unsettling post. Uh...why??

Chemar 02-05-2012 09:09 PM

I've added a trigger icon here as yes, this is a rather strange and unsettling post to make on a social forum for chit chat about home and garden stuff. Most members here deal with daily health problems, and come to this section to relax and "get away from it all" a bit

Here in Florida, we too have preparedness kits and plans for storms.

Anything can happen anytime in this crazy world, but I am not sure I want to live in that level of alarmism personally...if it gets that bad..........beam me up!

DS and I were just doing what we do last summer when Earthquake out of Virginia hit and no way had we expected anything. No damage but for a few seconds we were like WTF?????? In a flash he found a report on FB of what had happened. DD was in Richmond, but on a bus when it hit and felt nothing (buses do their own shaking). But like any mom, I was so worried when the cell towers went blank and I couldn't reach her for hours. DS and I felt the aftershock too, she slept through it. I think she got mad we felt more of whole thing than her.

If the unimaginable happens, hope we go out in the first act and don't linger.

Hey kicker

That is really what I was thinking, what you said. I wouldn't want to be one of those left behind. I do pray kicker that mankind is smarter than that. ginnie

Ginnie,
We have a pool full of 55000 gallons of water, squirrels, some freeze dried food, alcohol, woods, and some party records. Bet we make 2 weeks. BUT what 2 weeks!

Re: truth

I can't engage in a certain activity because of the laws in my state. So I don't. But a book I read, said if that lousy stuff ever happened, light the bud, and just sit right down. I read alot kicker, in fact I am a nerd that way. I read On the Beach by Nevil Shute written in the 50's and One Second After by William R. Forstchen, several others too. I would be a burden in my medical condition, so I would sit right down! That is why I really don't worry about anything except a hurricane. I sure will be booging out of town, as I am on a barrier Island. Anything else, I would not be running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I'd invite all my friends over to site right down with me! :) ginnie
