Question

I have been approved and had an apt with SSI and also got paperwork for SSD. I'm under ther understanding that SSI and SSD are 2 seperate and different things.

Is this true and what is is the difference?

SSD is given based on the number of work credits you have earned within a certain amount of time.

SSI is for low income people; not based on work credits. With SSI you should also be eligible for state medical assistance.

I get both.

Roadrunner is right.

SSD is for disabled people who have worked. A very wealthy person who has worked their whole life and then becomes completely and permanently disabled would be eligible for SSD.

SSI is for people with low income. It is based on need, not on work credits. Wealthy people are never eligible for it. This is why you have to show how many assets you have. People with low income are eligible for it, even if they have never worked.

Make sense?

Has nothing todo with being wealthy. If you worked and have work credits you can quilify for ssd. I dont know what wealthy means to some people but enough work credits is the only thing you need to qualify for ssd.

Right, of course. But my point was that it also has nothing to do with need.
