Is there a such thing of taking to much vitamins
Hello
I have started taking vtiamins since i am turning40 yrs old! I am taking B12 1000, D3, Flaxiseed,One a day multi vitiam, Glussimine 2000, Magnesium??? Another thig the magnesium has oxide in it is should i switch being some say it is useless?? Is this over doing it!! |
Well this is very interesting, because I have found that ever since I've taken fish oil. My reactions to certain medications haven't been as good. I've taken fish oil since like 2004-05. And ever since that time, my reactions to meds have been kind of offtrack.
I know this because i stopped the fish oil for like a month or so over the summer. And my body seemed to respond more to other things i was taking like b vitamins. I don't know why, maybe it's just cause I am fat, and adding fat to myself, maybe overdoes it. and causes digestive issues, which in turn causes poor metabolism or whatever. But over the summer, i took b vitamins and they worked better without the fish oil, as well as coq10. It seemed to really work well and be more effective. But to answer your question you should maybe try going on a vacation from some for a short while to see if something changes. I personally would take a different magnesium, maybe even magnesim chloride. And feel free to comment on any of my queries. |

Flaxseed is a food, not a vitamin. Glucosamine is not a vitamin either. One a Day is designed for RDA only and does not have high doses. 1000mcg B12...only 10 micrograms or less are absorbed from that. Not a high dose either. you don't give a dose for the Vit D. I assume you had testing for that as well and use an appropriate dose? If your magnesium has OXIDE in it, it is predominately oxide and therefore about 4-8mg is absorbed. The rest goes out the stool. Since adults need about 350mg a day, the Oxide is useless. Products that list Oxide are mostly oxide. I have called manufacturers and they cannot give the ratio on this, and that is because it is all oxide IMO. So unless you have some RARE kidney disease, your intake is not high or alarming. |
Glucosamine is one that may or may not be of any value. It doesn't do any harm to take it, and some people swear it makes a difference in how they feel, so if it can't hurt to try it, it can't hurt to try it.
We're about to try a vacation from it as soon as we finish current supplies. http://www.quackwatch.org/01Quackery...ucosamine.html Doc |
Again, I don't think he's overdoing it. But you should be wary/careful with anything you put in your body. And some people react differently. I did not have any bad reactions to b vitamins or N-acetyl cysteine or a number of other supplements. But i did have some bad reactions to amino acids L-carnitine, l-tyrosine, and l-lysine and some selective cases of fish oil and Coq10.
That doesn't mean that everyone would. But i just would suggest being careful with what you take. This article says something about that: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/751263. Coq10 or high doses of R lipoic acid can cause fatigue, in some certain cases for me it had caused that. And to continue my passage about taking fatty acids for that long, and your body not responding well to that, I recently had been taking an anticonvulsant called depakote and I got some liver panels "within limits" but i didnt like getting that. That may just be related to being overweight but still. |
I have a vitamin D difficiency what is a good way to increase it???
|
One increases Vit D when deficiency exists with OTC D3.
What were your test results? You need the numbers to figure out how much to take. |
Thank you Dr. Smith. Some days I have issues with my typing.

The standard rule for Vit D is 1000IU D3 for every 10 pts you need.
The new low normal is considered to be 50 these days depending on who you read and believe. (US units) So with your level, I'd start at 2000Iu D3 daily, and get retested in 3 months. Some people respond quickly, and other may need higher doses, the "rule" is only an average one. |
