My skin hurts
Hi. I don't really think I'm new here. Just been a very, very long time since I visited. I have, of course, MS. I'm experiencing something new and am wondering if it's MS related. From the bottom of my spine and around my left side (just above the hip), my skin hurts. It hurts to touch it and it feels warm. Could this be some kind of neuralgia?

Could be. Could it be shingles? (I've not had that, just wondering)

Hi Debb, welcome back.:) I've had that skin hurting type of symptoms. I remember it happening during an exacerbation, when I was still RRMS. It also happens to me when I have a fever from illness.
Hope it's just temporary for you. If it persists, then check with your Doc, you may be having a MS attack. |
If it is pink/red, in addition to hurting, I'd see a doctor.
Cellulitis is like this. Warm + red/pink+ pain should be seen by a doctor. |
I agree with all above- an acute infection could cause painful skin.
On the other hand, MS can give you skin that pinches, scrunches, has spiders crawling over it, feels wet when it's dry, feels cold when it's warm, feels like you have a stitch sewn through it, has a voodoo doll fan sticking pins in it, itching, scratching and tingly. All at once or of course any combination of... |
It could be a pseudo-flare
It could be a pseudo-flare. I'd go see a doc any way, if you could. Better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry about your skin hurting. It sounds painful. Since it is not only hurting but has warmth to it as well, I would call your dr and get in to see her/him. It may or may not be MS related and it's better to get it checked than wait too long.
Let us know how you are doing. |
I have areas of skin on my back in that area that jump when touched...it feels as if someone is rubbing the hairs the wrong way. I hate it, because it makes me seem cold to people who are trying to be affectionate:(

You said your skin hurts to touch, and that’s exactly what it feels like. I have had that sensation, too. I don’t know about the part about it feeling warm, though. That sounds more like an inflammation. Perhaps you have both.
offinthedistance, you made me chuckle. I’m going to bookmark this thread, and read your post to my hubby when he gets in tonight. It’ll prove to him that I am not the only person who feels this stuff. You described it so well, too. Thanks for the much-needed chuckle. :winky::winky::winky: |
why thank you Marion. I aim to please :)
The number of times I've felt a spider crawl up my leg and tried to block it out knowing there's nothing there only to be bitten by a bleedin' thing. You can't win!! |
