Hi My Daughter has RSD
 

I am here about my daughter. She is 29 and got RSD about 5-6 years ago from a fall at work. She has RSD in her left arm. Her and her husband just decided to break up and she wants to try and get on disability and move in with me. Her current traveling nurse job ends on 3/24.

Her husband has been telling me she is taking way too many pain pills and I have seen a couple of times where I witnessed her seeming very high. Last night she stayed at my house and seemed extremely high. I checked and she had taken 8 percacet and 4-6 tylenol PM (she forgot all her other meds (morphine, hydrocodon, Lyrica, Diazepam, Carisoprodol, Promethazine, Xanax and ambien). I was really scared she would OD last night and don't know if I can deal with her living with me that high all the time. I don't want to seem insensitive, I really care about her.

I would like to know from other people with RSD if they are taking this much pain medication or does this sound like a problem.

Also any other advice would be appreciated.

I too have RSD... 8+ years. At first I refused to take pain medicines. Now I have tried several only to find out that I am severely allergic to all but the current which I have been on for almost a year with no problems.

Hi, I'm glad you found us here. I could go on about how sorry I am for your daughter ( which I am ) but let's go straight to the important stuff. Every one of us fellow sufferers has their own recipe for pain relief ( and I use the term loosely) If I may offer some suggestions. One of the first things would be to contact her Dr. And find out what exactly is prescribed. Dosage, how often and what each med does. That might ease your mind some. Then talk to your daughter, let her know that you were afraid for her health and safety. You will never know what its like to have RSD but you are a woman and can sympathize with the crumbling of her Marriage. I'm sorry I don't have more than basics to offer, without knowing more specifics. Please tell your daughter that she is not alone. offer her this website and my wishes of a single moment of peace In her heart, and wherever else she may need it most. :hug: Corey

P.S. I'm 34 and have been suffering for a short 2 years with RSD that began in My right arm and is spreading to my right. My marriage has fallen into pieces that we are not sure can be put back together. I would be open to writing to your daughter if she would like. :D

I see you have already met a couple of my very favorite people on here who have given you links to find connections to others in both your shoes and your dauther's. I, for one, in my pain life after an auto wreck have been prescribed and taken all of the meds you mention but being careful to take them as prescribed. Clinton does speak with wisdom when he suggests, with your daughter's written permission of disclosure, you approach her doctor if you are to be the caregiver to learn about all of the meds, the when, how much, and side effects so you may be informed and anticipate what will come.

On the RSD forum I have written on behalf of my sister-in-law Terri, same name, I know, who has suffered RSD for well over a decade after having had a simple scope knee surgery somehow go wrong. She was at the time a full time restaurant chef [tres bien] and a talented artist in oils and acrylics. Her progression over the years has led her through many meds to address her pain, and she now subsists on morphine.

My Terri is one who despite her affliction is nevertheless one who makes every effort to dispense cheer to others despite her pain. She has painted a many T-Shirts which she shares with cancer patients at local hospitals. She was awarded disability assistance due to the debilitating nature of her RSD, the pain is constant, the amounts of meds significant, and her resolve to share cheer with others unimpeded. She is not a computer person, and has not a one in the house. She outlived one husband [cancer] and now is blessed with another. When she shares on here it is through me kind of dictated secretary style........ I'm the secretary. But she has maintained an opennes about sharing through me as people inquire.

Hi all,

Its been a while since I posted. In the past few weeks I have learned more about my daughter and her condition. I really feel for her because she has it in both arms and hands and is in constant pain. I think she does sometimes take too much medicine because she is in so much pain it gets to a point that she can't monitor herself. She is moving in this Sunday and I plan to help her monitor her medicine.

Her last day of work is on Saturday and since she is a contractor she will not have any benefits. We are going to apply first for short term disability and then see what we can do to make her life more manageable. She won't have insurance so she is going to apply for medi-cal and we have talked to a couple doctors about seeing her as a cash patient.

I plan to continue to look for new ideas that might help her.
