stress

So.... if stress is so bad for you how do you avoid it?

My doctor told me at my last visit that I would be better if I wasn't working. My job is very stressful. I teach little ones all day. It is a never ending job that requires you to take work home every day. You never get caught up with this job. There are so many requirements, assessments, parents to deal with, lesson plans to write, evaluations, children with bad behavior, impossible deadlines and expectations, etc. You always have the principal and vice principal, along with county personel "visiting" in your room without notice. Insurance and retirement (and pay) is always being cut. It is a job you could devote 24 hours, seven days a week and it still would not be enough.

How do you spell stress? "MY LIFE" It has been crazy! I got divorced. I remarried. Life has been difficult. I can really see the decline over the last few years. I look older, feel worse, etc. PD has taken its toll on me.
How can we reduce our stress? Especially, if we are still working? I have to make a living.

Any suggestions?

If you really cannot quit your job, look into tai chi. Actually, you might want to look into tai chi whether or not your work. A recent study showed it really does help PWP.

Stress

Lurking force has a good idea too. It doesn't seem there is any time left over in your own life to take care of yourself. In any life their has to be some balance, especially if you have PD, or other medical issues. If you don't take some time for yourself, the medical conditions can and do get worse. Set aside some time during your week, that you can relax. Read, listen to music, something that is beneficial for you. If a body is in non stop action, you are always in the fight to flight response mode, that lowers your resistance to infection etc. I did not know this either when my kids were young. I was traveling all over the country and trying to raise kids with an autoimmune problem. This led to more medical issues. Find a balance. No amount of money in the world is worth your health and life. I know what a teachers life is, I have teachers in my family. I taught Art in the schools. I know the stress of making a living supporting two kids on my own. It cost me more in my health conditions. I know there are no easy answers when you have to provide a living. I would do what ever I had to do to cut the stress looking back on things. I worked until my body would go no further. Find that way to balance, where you have that time to be good to yourself. I am here for you anytime you want to talk. ginnie:hug:

Instant meditation. (I have no financial interest in this)

It might help.

i taught for 12 years with pd; i think you are going to find yourself quitting simply because it's not going to get better by itself - you have to make a change. Can you teach for half a day? i wouldn't recommend teaching to anyone- even healthy people. too many numbers and not enough passion.
they need a movement for student centered schools.
