A cautionary tale

Just a reminder if your feet are numb to check them out regularly to make sure there are no infections, or punctures, or foreign objects in them.
i have had a thumb tack in the bottom of my foot for days without knowing it. The only reason i knew it was days because i had heard a clicking sound one time walking barefoot but didnt realize it was my foot that was clicking.

This morning im putting cream on my feet which i do 2x a day in the winter and i feel a crack under my big left toe. no big deal. i get cracks which is why i put cream on them. i looked under my toe and was shocked. i had a hole in my left toe and it was weeping. it looked like i stepped on a nail and puntured it though that might not be the case. my doctor was closed so i went to a stat health kind of place and had it cleaned and looked at. Have to soak it 2x a day. bacitration and bandage. anti biotics too. have to go back and keep eye on it til it heals. infected but not too badly yet. never felt a thing to give any warning.

Is your foot looking better or is it to early to tell?

update: i went to the gp who is new to me on friday. she couldnt tell if it was infected or not, there was nothing obvious but since i couldnt feel pain and it didnt look that great to her, she wanted me to get checked by a podiatrist. so today, saturday i went to podiatrist. he said there was no obvious infection, gave me silverdene to put on once a day and keep it covered and told me to finish antibiotics. i also went for x ray to make sure nothing is broken. it will take a while to fill in.

That's serious, and I'm glad you found it and took care of it up to date on your tetanus?), but like a pratfall, it's still funny. :ROTFLMAO:

Has the gash closed up nicely and healed now?

echoes long ago 03-22-2012 05:10 PM

it is about halfway filled in depth wise. still keeping it wrapped and applying silverdene. thanks for asking.

I am relieved for you that it is healing and getting better!

It is so important to watch out for injuries, or missteps like this!

It can be the little things that bring us down in the end!
