Copaxone and depression?
I was officially dx with MS last July and I was started on Copaxone immediately. I did fairly well with my injections for a few months but then just started to feel more and more "blue" and I stopped taking it. My husband and my Mom were very upset about this and I know that its just b/c they care. My doctor said I really needed to restart so I have but that feeling of sadness is creeping back in now.
Has anyone else had this? Does it go away after a few months. The site injections are bad enough but I don't want to end up having an issue with depression just b/c of this medication. It's bad enough to have your injection sites aches for a couple of hours the next day... Thanks |
Hi and welcome to NeuroTalk! :Wave-Hello:
Have you talked to your doctor about starting some type of AD? Depression is common in MS and it might not be caused by the Copaxone. |
Depression is rare on C but it does exist. If you wish to keep taking it I would reccomend that you ask your MD for some help. I took it for 4 years and felt indefinably better once I stopped. Its a choice you must make for yourself. Please, talk with your family, talk to your MD and talk to your neuro. most problems can be handled.
Feel better, and welcome. |
Was my 1st med for MS & did wonders. Never depressed from it. Exercise, get back some muscle function & that should treat any depression :)
I started taking 10mg Prozac 2? yrs ago to boost prolactin, hoping it would help my MS. At least it helped my attitude, did boost prolactin a bit, MS still worsening but the P sure doesn't hurt. A lady in hardward store told me I always have a glow. That was awesome. |
Hi Nateswife, welcome to Neurotalk. Good advice from the folks here. Not every DMD is for every person. Sometimes the adverse sides overcomes the possible benefits. A talk with your Doc and Fam is a good idea.
Feel better and stay with us. |
