Lyrica withdrawal - Incoming
 

Hi - so my name is Kayla and i'm 21. I have been on 200mg lyrics a day for 6 months aprox for an unknown pain problem. I have been a type one diabetic for 11 years and at the beginning of may of 2011 I started having horrible abdominal pain (stabbing pains etc), over the months of various treatments, oxycotin and a medical detox of oxycotin (so a gasto doc at the Mayo Clinic would see me) the pain varried from abdominal, to all over my body, to extreme lower leg and foot pain, episodes of passing out from being on Clonidine, and currently nausia and headaches randomly. I cannot tell what it caused by the lyrica and what might be the underlying problem (if there is one) anymore.

But today I took my last dose of lyrica and since I cannot get more I guess I'll be going into withdrawal soon, last time I ran out I didn't know it had withdrawl effects and the stomach and head pain was so bad, I had horrible anxiety and horrible horrible nightmares when I would fall asleep for 10 minutes at a time. I Dont know how long it will last but ill be alone for the next 5 days or so and I'm scared ill go into DKA while im alone because I won't be able to eat from the stomach pain.
Is there any advice? Or should I just let it consume me?

I stopped Lyrica myself because it quit helping me (I have Fibromyalgia and spine disorders) If you feel you are going into withdrawal, contact your doc and see if they can wean you off instead of just stopping cold.

Each person is an individual and has different reactions, but I do know for sure
that your stress at quitting will make it harder. In me at least (and I think most people) when you are stressing about something it magnifies your pain.

I stopped cold but felt that it quit at 6 months. Had no problem.

But do contact your doctor if you feel different. Most doctors won't let you go through withdrawal without some management.

Ill try and find a doctor before it gets bad.

Twice, my Part D provider refused to pay for my Lyrica. Both times it took five weeks to clear it up, even with the doctor vigorously advocating for me and telling them I was in WD. I stayed in full blown WD both times. Best wishes.

I so appreciated you all detailing your with drawl symptoms from lyrica. I was at my wits end yesterday as I "thought" i fell sick with the flu last thurs. But i had been thinking about getting off lyrica as i feel it had been effective for pain it was causing me to bloat up gain a ton of weight and mostly which can cause long term damage is acid reflux. So truly I don't remember if i had dosed down last wed or forgot to take any lyrica at all. I am now thinking that is what happened and i woke feeling like a truck ran me over. Cold and hot sweats emence pain everywhere. Then as days followed i thought since i had the flu i wasn't going to have my acid reflux act up so I did not take the lyrica but more vicodin. I barely ate since last wed. Yesterday i found this thread and went holy smokers these are all the exact symptoms i have been going thru. To the letter! i have never been depressive, or thought of suicidal tendencies never but i have to say I was praying for God to come back and take us all home. Then i read some of you have been going thru the horrible withdrawl for over 4 weeks i really lost it as I am a commissioned worker i can't go that long without working. So i broke down yesterday and took one. Sure enough all the crappy symptoms went away. I could feel the lyrica go thru me almost like a blood transfusion. It was awful. But I came around and started feeling well enough i got a little work down yestereday. So today i am going to my doctor and having him dose me down. I am wondering have any of you thought about a lawsuit with lyrica? I am so upset about this drug. I am going to beg my doctor not to give it to one other person. It is a satanic drug it's horrible. Your right when one of you said it takes you to a dark place. I have been on it for about 3 years. I had to get special auth too but i am a script saver meaning i tell my doctor i need more and then save meds in case of loosing insurance or instances like what you all experienced. Anyway thank you for telling your story it sure helped me.

To what end? I'm sorry, and it's unfortunate, that you've had a bad experience with Lyrica, but it still helps a great number of people with neuropathic pain, reduces their suffering, and improves their quality of life. It doesn't work for everyone, but there are many, many people here who extoll it for the positive difference it's made in their pain and in their lives.

ALL medications have side effects, and some, like Lyrica, can produce dependence as one of them. Each patient (along with their doctors) must weigh the benefits vs. risks.

Again, your experience is unfortunate, but you found this thread, and are now going to wean off of it more slowly. Some people still have problems weaning, but not all. I hope things go well for you.

Are/were you taking it for PN? There's a lot of good information on this site, and many knowledgable people.

new... Hi... my name is patti. I was researching withdraw symptoms of lyrica and found this site. 6 weeks ago a red blister like rash came up on my right side . I had been at the beach all day and so i just thought it was a sunburn...in the next 11 days it got worse so i went to the dr and was told i had the shingles. The dr gave me neurontion and a antiviral medication and in 2 weeks the rash was gone but the pain and burning was bad.went back to the dr and he gave me lyrica....after 7 days of taking lyrica i started having mood swings i would start cring then be ****** off for no reason and i could hardly get off the couch to go to the restroom my legs were so weak... so after 7 more days i stopped taking the lyrica under dr care...and the dr told me to start taking it again on monday, for the last 5 days that i have not been taking the lyrica i have been shaking bad, sick at my stomach along with vomiting, chills ,sweats and some crazy dreams and some mood swings...after reading other post on here im thankful i have not been taking it but for 21/2 weeks....I was told at first that lyrica was not addicting and not a antidepressant but i read it is used for and has been used for anxiety....I feel the medication for me is not worth the withdraws that you eventually are going to suffer...does anyone know how long withdraws usually last?? ty

Hi, my name is Joseph and I have Hydrocephalus. I have been having dull headaches and nausea for a while and have had several surgeries which did nothing, so I was prescribed Topomax. I think I might have been prescribed lyrics first, but since it has a weight gain side affect and I'm pan hypo. I still have the same pain, but never gone into withdrawl and my doctor started me on it slowly. It also helps with my appetite.
