i know neck/posture can cause tmj but can tmj cause severe pain, like at the base of your head?

the reason i ask is because when i went to the dentist and got a novocaine injection my NECK/brachial plexus(??) felt better. i wonder if the novocaine spread to my neck somehow (lol) or does that mean my jaw is just super messed up

does anyone get a "roaring" cloggin noise or lack thereof in their ears? ive gotten this since i was a kid :(

Since I've had thoracic outlet syndrome, yes, I have the noise in my ears, but only when laying down in bed. I don't know if it's the TOS directly that is causing it, or some other damage sustained when I had a severe whiplash injury. To find out more about it, do an internet search on "tinnitus," and more specifically, "pulsatile tinnitus." In my case, I was told by a doctor that it's caused by a lack or interruption of blood flow from the neck to the head.

TMJ can cause all kinds of strange pain and tightness, from the head down to the neck, so it's a possibility.

Yes, when I researched TMJD, people were complaining of such things.

EDIT: "TMJD" above said "tinnitus".

Also, I get a tonal noise in my left ear that comes and goes. If it's really bad, stretching sometimes alleviates it. And just for fun, if I don't have it, stretching can give me a mild version of it. :rolleyes:

At least for me, my TMJD seems to be rooted in muscular tension. My symptoms go away or greatly diminish with relaxation and stretching.

yeah when i od'd on magnesium im telling you guys, muscle pain ALL GONE. it was surreal.

ive had tinnitus and roaring since i was a child unfortunately, always thought i had swimmers ear. this scares me.

jmaxweg, when did you get the whiplash? did you ever kind of recover, guess not since youre posting here :(

Hi, I wasn't quite sure what you meant about "magnesium," so I can't comment on that. Maybe sudden onset of tinnitus is worrisome, but you say you've had it for a very long time, so I'm guessing it's nothing to really worry about in your case (but an ENT physician could help answer that). I had the whiplash in June 2011, and some effects (24/7 severe migraines and nausea) have lessened, but some others (severe cognitive/memory deficits and vertigo) have remained and worsened.
