TLE and Auditory Processing Difficulties
Hi! My 6 year old was diagnosed in November with Auditory Processing Disorder(APD). After a couple different Dr's, she also now has a Temporal Lobe Epilepsy diagnosis. She is on Depakote Sprinkles, which have completely taken care of the seizures now that her dose is up to 3 pills a day.
We are having some issues with her/her school regarding her APD. In doing some research, I saw that there is a link between APD and TLE. Does anyone else have similar issues? |
Hi RockerMama,
When a person has APD it can sometimes cause seizures from the left temporal lobe because language (speech) is in the left temporal lobe. When there's a problem with APD this tells me the seizures are coming from the left temporal lobe. My best advice to you is for your child to see an Epileptologist (Dr specialzing in epilepsy) and have that Dr. order a wada test. This test will show what side of the brain your child is using for speech. Often for females the speech is split down both sides of the brain. I work in public school and if the school is giving you any problems regarding your childs health it's against the law and they can't give your child or you a hard time. If your child is having a hard time doing school work or understanding things tell the school to get a teacher aide or teacher assistant to work with your child one on one and don't back down. I wish you and your family only the best. May God Bless all of You! Sue |
