Choice of drug treatment for breast cancer patients, is made by the oncologist. They have a specialized field and statistics they follow based on what they have seen that works for patients.
Response to any drug can be very variable.

Here is a Wiki link to tamoxifen with general information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamoxifen

This link shows % of side effects reported by doctors and patients to the FDA.

Tamoxifen has been replaced by Femara and Arimidex as far as popularity goes. Why these drugs are selected in various patients depends on the experience of the physician.
Here is the side effect profile for Arimidex:

for comparison.

Whenever you affect hormone receptors, you are going to get tradeoffs. I don't think that can be avoided.

If you lost your post because it "timed out", you can prevent that by checking the little box --remember me-- next to your name when you log in. That way you won't lose posts due to taking too long etc.

eva
just a reminder, in case you did not know, that Dr Smith is not really a doctor, but chose his name from a character in the TV show "Lost in Space"...it states that under his avatar and in his posting signature.

I just need to post this as it sounded like you were asking for some kind of professional opinion

Dr. Smith 03-21-2012 12:09 PM

Answered privately.
