Getting sick on Tramadol

I got Rx for Tramadol and been taking since March 13. This is in addition to 2700 mg Neurontin.

I have been taking any where form one to three 50 mg pills a day.

I took one this morning and six hours later and vomited.

A few days ago I did feel light headed and nauseous but did not associate it with Tramadol.

Could Tramadol be making me sick six hours after taking?

Yes, tramadol can cause nausea/vomiting. I had this when I first started it.

Are you taking and SSRI drugs? It might be some drug interaction with another medication...that should be looked up for you here:
http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html
People who are slow metabolizers, may have longer duration of action with tramadol.

I use typically 1/2 tablet (25mg) now when I need it at night. A whole one
is often too much for me.

I have only had the nausea twice, way in the beginning. I don't use it very often so I keep my dosage low.

Thanks for reply. I went to site and didn't see any drug interactions. I didn't think of slicing pill as they are so small to begin with. I am small size at 104 lbs so perhaps I can use a smaller dose.

I use a pill splitter. They are available at most pharmacies.

Long acting medications, should not be cut unless they are labeled
as safe to do so.
Tramadol does come in a timed release form starting at 100mg...so
make sure your pill is the immediate release 50mg before trying to split.

The extended release tend to be very small for tramadol.

I did look at my pill bottlemand it says Hcl after name. I checked on drug Niaspan and it said ER.

I find that using the 1/2 tablet or 25mg, to be just as effective pain wise for me as the 50mg! (with no side effects except some little hangover the next morning). Of course I don't have any tolerance issues because I only use it once a week or less.

Tramadol

I tend to always start with half doses of things. Tramadol is pretty strong and different people are effected 'differently" Unfortunatly it's one of the few things I can take but a half pill works fine. But once in awhile it makes me feel off, even high. Years ago I gave my mother a pill to try and it did a number on her. However later her doctor prescribed it and she started with a half. By the end of her life she was taking 2 pills every four hours for ostio arthritis. I can't even imagine that.

Oh, I remember the first night I took my first tramadol!

I was so nauseated...that lasted about an hour. Then I hallucinated until 4am! My old devoted lovely black cat Tippy somehow sensed this and sat on me all night. When I rolled over
she moved and came right back on board! She never did that before or since! (she is now gone to the Rainbow Bridge at age 20! and I miss her). Sheba usually ruled my bed, but not that night!

She also sat with me while I was on the computer...

Be very careful

I started with 2x50mg/day. After 2 mos noticed decline in efficacy. Took a break for a week and found underlying nerve sensitivity MUCH greater. Painkiller can allow u to aggravate underlying condition and not know it AND may actually cause greater nerve sensitization. Now I am using 25mg only occasionally, and mix in other modalities--TENS, PainGone Pen, white willow(mild form of aspirin), etc.

Hello,
The VA has found seizures associated with tramadol use, when I was taking max dosages of Tramadol with Lyrica I fell a good bit.
