Thoriacic fusion
 

Hello i am new here and just happened to find this while searching for some answers that the neurologist doesn't want to answer. My son was in a car accident aug. 7, 2010 at age 18. He had ribs 6-11 on the right side fractured along with #9 on the left side fractured. If that wasn't enough he had a chance fracture of t9 vertebre which they felt required fusion to stabalize. He underwent surgery the next night and had 2 rods with 10 screws going through to anchor t7-t11. Recovery seemed to go ok. He has had continual pain to soreness.

I asked 2-3 times at discharge to f/u 2 wks later to 2 months f/u after about therapy. They said no at his age they heal fast and didn't need it.??? Didn't totally understand that but they were the docs. Since then as i say his back bothers him daily. Not sure to what degree since he won't say unless you ask then it is just the same as always. When he turns his torso he also has an area that will bulge to the right of the incision site. Relaxed it isn't as visible at all. Anyone out there have any similar stories. I just called neurosurgery again yesterday and it was go to the primary doc to be checked out and possible xray to see. No help like before as she said i called march of 2011 and they suggested therapy to which i said oh no i repeatedly asked about therapy and kept getting told being so young it wasn't necessary. Any answers or ideas help.

I asked the nurse for maybe suggestion of exercises to stretch out the muscles connected to this area if it could be muscular..no help or answers at all. Am sure it is all fear of malpractice but really you think they could say something other than go to your primary doc or then it was you could come back for testing to see which would be outrageous and would they even say then. Of course there is no insurance now, he is 20 working 2 jobs but still living at home. Thanks for any help out there.

I'm sorry about your son's accident. You've come to a great place for support and understanding. There is a lot of good information here also.
People here really care and empathize with what you and your son are going through. Darlene has given you the link to the Spinal forum. Feel free to roam thru the others as well. If you just need to talk about your frustrations, feel free to just 'vent'.
This is a down-to-earth place and we can all just be ourselves.
