Hearing Loss With MS
I've slowly been losing the hearing in my left ear. Seems like most of my MS sx involve my left side.
I've noticed that my hearing is muffled in my left ear if I'm laying in bed watching TV and laying on my right side. If I turn so that my right ear is not covered I can hear much better and clearer. It's like there is a cover over my left ear.....but there's not. My Dad (who I'm convinced had MS, too, although no official dx) had hearing loss in his left ear, too. The doctor told him it was nerve damage and hearing aids would not help. Wonder why they didn't investigate further to see why there was nerve damage? Anybody else have hearing loss? |
Yes, dammit.. It is probably a mix of age and MS...AGAIN.....grrrrrr. Can you tell I'm mad about this?:D
I have that muffled sound in both ears, I think. Sometimes it's worse than others. I hear the sounds, but the words are not clear.:( Turning up the sound only helps some, because it's not the loudness as much as hearing the pronunciation of words.. KWIM? As for your DDad, Kelly, I imagine there are 1000s of peeps, who went through life with ailments such as mild MS and yet never DXed. In the old days, you were just having a bad spell.. |
I wear two hearing aids and my MS doctor believes that the hearing loss is from MS. I, on the other hand, am not so sure. My dad had hearing loss, so it might be inherited from him. I don't suppose it really matters which it is.

The hearing in my left ear goes in and out...and I get occasional ringing in either ear occasionally, too. I have to go in for a hearing test...thanks for the thread-this reminded me!!

me too
I've been going deaf fairly rapidly since my early 50's. (I'm 63 now.) I hear pretty well with hearing aids. It is neural damage. Nobody can say for sure but I believe I'm one of the 5% of MS patients with MS hearing loss. It sucks. I used to be a professional singer!
