Heartbeat in my head...
 

Along with the nosie in my head, I hear my heart beat in my head. On bad days it's really powerful. Feeling like presure and like my heads going to explode. Does anyone else experience this or know why this occurs??

I felt the same thing in the months following my concussion and the sound of my heartbeat was also often accompanied by a migraine like head ache.

I don´t exactly know what causes it though. I could imagine the blood pressure in the brain being too high somehow because of a dysfunction in the brains auto regulation system.

I do believe these problems are quite common after a head injury.

If you get a head ache while exercising or the sound of your heartbeat gets worse, it could point to auto regulation problems as the culprit.

Oh and btw, I read somewhere that "Transcranial Doppler", is able to determine if too much/little blood is flowing through your brain in case it gets worse or is a persistent problem

I'm nine months into my pcs. I get "whooshing" sounds in my head. The pressure as well. I've had my ears checked and they are fine. If my head isn't whooshing then it means I have a migrane again. No answers as to why. I think it's intracranial pressure. It's annoying and the worse part is the unsteadyness cause the noise gets so loud I cant get myself steady.

I too am the heartbeat in my head...(along with some dizzyness), now 5 weeks after having had a concussion. My concussion, rather embarrassingly, happened when I was running with my hands in my pockets and slipped on some ice and planted the front of my head on the sidewalk with some force. I was unconsious for a bit, brought to the hospital on a traction board and released what I thought was rather quickly. In any case, I guess my question for you was how long did the heartbeat thing last and did you experience dizziness? I find I get dizzy when looking up, or when laying down and/or getting up from laying down.

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your fall and concussion. I can remember the risk of trying to keep my hands warm while being on a slippery surface.

It sounds like you may need to have a therapist try the Epley Maneuver to see if it will resolve your dizziness. There is a YouTube video that may help you do it at home. The goal is to get particles in the inner ear to move to a place where they do not cause dizziness. these particles can get knocked loose by the impact.

Thanks, I will give it a try but in reading a little about the procedure it talks about the "affected" ear and I will have to pay attention now but I don't think I associate it with one ear or the other. I never went back in for a follow up after the emergency call and as my neck continues to ache at times I am think just may.
