Diagnosed with TOS Friday

A neuro told me she suspected I had this about five years ago. I had some PT but not much since I went back to school. I have had chronic neck issues with spasms and lack of curvature for years along with shoulder tightness . I also was told via EMG I had mild Carpal Tunnel I believe in both hands.

A week ago, I woke up with severe pain on the right side of my clavicle and neck and jaw pain on that side aching and hurting too... a couple days later I developed numbness and tingling in BOTH my hands. It happens when I remotely use my hands, I get the symptoms.

Went to regular doctor and he said I had thorasic outlet and wants me to go for PT.

I am wondering if you get symptoms on both sides like this with TOS? My clavicle and neck only really hurt on the right side (though I have spasms and achiness on my left side too).

Thanks.

yes you can. I have bilateral TOS and it was worse on left side with neck pain, clavicle pain and jaw. I am a year since first diagnosed and now have neck pain on left. I had surgery on left side which relieved some symptoms because I have arterial compression as well, but still suffer from some neuro symptoms.

Hello Crepes

Welcome to Neruo Talk. You found a site that has lots of information on tos, and some very compassionate folks. I hope you get all the help you need as you go forward in treatment. We will be here for you to listen to you anytime. I know the pain from that condition is not good. I also will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ginnie

I would give PT a try , but please ask for an advanced PT person, and hopefully you get one that will work with you and not force a standard cookie cutter plan for you. :)

If at any time they don't seem to be listening or adjusting to how YOU are doing with the sessions, then either quit that place or ask for another PT person.
Don't just go along with things if it makes you hurt more, proper PT for TOS needs to move slowly and not cause more pain or symptoms.

You'll probably be wise to read up on trigger points, spasms, bodywork and posture.
