Good folks and bad treatment

Went to the ER yesterday after passing out in the MD office because some other jerkwad gave me pills that were bad for me, yet he kept insisting that I take them. So, I get to the ER where they tried exactly ONCE to get an IV ONCE! decided they couldnt get a line, and then some giantjerkwad came in and gave me a lecture on screwing a line into my bone for IV hydration he was "not going to play with me" EXCUSE ME?? I said "can I just have a glass of water?" im not vomiting, and I dont see why we cant do this the old fashioned way. He agreed, and brought me TWO glasses of water. and I never saw another glass of water again. NOT ONE nurse came and offered me water, or relief. NOT ONE!

It went from bad to worse when I was ignored, passed by and treated like I just wanted a day off from work. IM RETIRED! I could have gone home, slept in a comfy bed and lounged all day! I asked for something for my migraine and was treated like I asked for morphine. The MD quickly shuffled over and gave me the dangers of narcotics talk. REALLY?? Did I ask for narcs?? if I want narcs I will go home! I have several varieties to choose from there! can I have an advil? Stupid stupid stupid! Not once did I create a scene, act out or even hint that I was going to be a bad girl. The ER was empty and I was the easiest patient there. I wanted to go home, but the cardio doc said NO! he demanded all sorts of tests.

Called the cardio guy today to make follow up and they said "how did you like that iv boost?" I said WHAT IV BOOST?!" He was VERY upset! he is rattling all sorts of bars and wants me to do the same. he is livid that I was treated so badly after HE personally sent me with a hand ful of specific instructions and he expected them to be followed. So, I have been given instructions to GET UM!

Dont you hate when you need help and get treated like you are either faking, wasting their time, not worthy of their time, in their way, making a big deal out of nothing, or they act like UGH! do I really have to take care of her? Like you pooped your pants and they have to change you or something? Why did they go into medicine? I swear I wanted to smack a few of those girls yesterday. They were ugly with me! That was uncalled for.

anyone else tired of this?

I think I'd print out this post and take it directly to the Hospital Administrator. And be sure to tell them to let accounting know NOT to bill you for anything. Makes you wonder why some folks choose the careers they did.......

Hi dejibo

There is no excuse for how they treated you. Not one. You must report this to the hospital administrator. IV into BONE? after just one try? Seems to me nobody cared to help you at all. Please file a complaint. I hope your doctor does too. If those pills made you sick to begin with, maybe a complaint there is in order also.
Yes I have been treated badly too, thank God though not lately. I got sick at an art show, was admitted to the hospital and given IV's and tests, After three days, I saw no doctor, noone to told me what was wrong or why I was there at all. I pulled my IV out, and left, no joke. I had no insurance, and I couldn't afford to just stay there and get nothing accomplished. They call me back in an hour, requesting I go back in. turns out I had a gallbladder problem, that was life threatening. Well why didn't they tell me that in the hospital when I threatened to leave??????? I had the darn thing out, but never figured out why they had me suffer those three days. Why didn't I see a doc?. It was the emergency room doc that sent me upstairs. I was ignored with pain, and I did yell before I left. I also found a physician. I went from the hospital to a doctors office, where I got my PCP and told him what happened. He is the one who took care of me during that episode from then on. I was left in pain for three days, and I still never figured out why.

I do know this kind of thing happens. It took me leaving, and finding a new doctor to get help in the hospital. Complain Dej, and loudly. You should have never been treated so poorly. and they charge money for that....ginnie

oh trust me! I can rattle cages, and I plan on it now that I have the energy to. Yesterday I was attled, distracted, confused, disoriented, and confused. it was not the time to treat me badly. There is a reason I had my husband stay at my side the whole time. You MUST have someone stay and protect you, isnt that sad?

My MD is ANGRY! and isnt about to let this drop.

Dejibo,

I concur with Kitty that you should take that story to the hospital administrator. Being a physical therapist I see this type of treatment rarely but unfortunately it does happen. Your MD is rightfully upset. Hang in there!

Finally! heard from Patient relations who told me she had 15 mins before she was going into a meeting and leaving for the day could I please give her the "short version" of what happened....um NO! I cant, wont and shouldnt have to! "whats wrong with that place! I shouted at her. I said Im sorry, but even if I was completely nuts, insane, and a pain in the bum, NO ONE has cause to treat me the way I was treated.

They were rude, dismissive, uncaring, snotty, and unprofessional as hell. If you plan on seeing my happy self ever return there (and btw I have a platinum medical policy not x1 but x3 and so does hubby) then you better work harder to make me happy. What your hospital did to me was unbelievably uncalled for in this day and age to not so much as give me water! when I was there for hydration! trying to get my BP up and you can find someone who gives a damn enough to start an IV?! WTH! I ripped into her for exactly 14 mins. I then told her I left her ONE minute to spare for her response, which I am sure will be "im gonna pass this on" so...what can you do to make ME happy again? and she said...."im gonna pass this on to our ER administrator and we are gonna find out what happened."

I said "i just TOLD YOU what happened. what I want you to find out is WHY this was allowed to happen. Ok? she said Ok. Thanked me for my time, promised to get back to me on Monday when she gets back from her mini vacation and ...you all know how this goes, no?

RE: someone with you

Yes Dej, we have to keep someone with us the whole time to make sure we are not ignored. rattle the cages, raise the roof, cause holy ___ll. This should not occur. ginnie

sometimes also complaining to the dr who sent you there can help.
he practices there. if he complains they listen. drs are all important to a hospital. barf but true.

Ok...I've read enough. Go to your state's Medical Board. Do not pass go, do not allow them to "try" and placate you. What is wrong with this hospital is wrong with it's administrators & it's staff...and it has been wrong with it for a very long time. Make sure you have your doctor do the same thing. I guarentee you...it will be fixed almost as fast as they start calling YOU to make sure that you don't try to sue.

ginnie 04-15-2012 01:24 PM

Yes States Medical board

Absolutely, state medical board. This should never happen to any patient. ginnie
