Could I have TOS?

I have been trying to do some research, but it has been recommended to me that I may be suffering from TOS. I just turned 21 and I just started working out for the first time consistently in nearly 3 years. I noticed a slight tingling in my left hand but kinda put it off as nothing. I'm on my 3rd week of working out and it has slowly gotten worse. I've stopped all activity but the numbness has moved to both hands with tingling in fingers and also my arm areas.

After a friend suggested I may have TOS. Just scheduled a doctors appointment but not till next week.

Some past history I have had several problems with my shoulders rotator cuffs. I received a cortisone shot about a year ago to deal with the sharp pains. Im 6'4" and and have been diagnosed with scoliosis. Last summer I was in a bike accident and landed on my head. I have been suffering some whiplash/back pain/spine pain mild symptoms off and on. The doctor just prescribed a pain pill. MRI came back negative with any nerve damage on the spine.

Anyways advice would be appreciated. I'm new and looking for answers!

Hi & Welcome,
These all can be factors for acquiring TOS...

Most regular doctors don't learn about or understand much about TOS, :( just to let you know, so you aren't wasting time & money trying to find someone that can help you. Be sure to try to find a knowledgeable TOS doc - some will say they do know about it but only a very limited amount. They will not do much until someone has extreme symptoms. Other than rx meds or generic PT.

Standard generic PT isn't usually going to help either - unless you happen to get an outstanding therapist. seek out an advanced PT or body worker.

You might want to seek out a Nucca or upper cervical chiropractor in relation to the head hit & scoliosis. Those 2 things alone may resolve some of the TOS like issues.
ie- the head (approx 8-14 lbs) can get off center on the spine and throw everything out of balance. tilted shoulders, tilted hip?? even eyes and ears can be uneven.
Mine are, after a head hit off a horse at age 15 (1970s) and not knowing anything about c1, c2 adjusting or much about chiropractic back then..
After a repetitive work injury with many RSI's, I came across a really great DC that helped me soo much with the c1c2 , adjustments, TOS with PT type modalities. (ultrasound, LLLT, IF stim, Triggerpoint ) Also a teacher of PT that was very helpful as far as finding out my top ribs were raised up & stuck there, he did a simple maneuver to drop them down and it was instant relief.

Tons of help & TOS info in this sticky thread -

It is good to hear you stopped the weights, hypertrophied muscles could be the problem that set off the new symptoms or just some overuse that may fade away.
Be aware of your posture (slouching, head forward, shoulders forward) and do some gentle ROMs and the yoga corpse pose to relax those muscles.

Wow thanks for your great response! This does not sound fun...I hope this is not a beginning of a long start of problems. I haven't been to the chiropractor in some time. I will have to give that a try. Upper Cervical. Got it. I had to drive my friend to the airport last night and I noticed even just holding my hands on the wheel at times made them seem numb. Anyways im sure I will be back with more questions.
