allergy medications?

Would it be alright if i take any allergy meds or a decongestant? Allergies are killin me right now.

When i was diagnosed with pcs(march 15th) my doctor told me not to take anything for allergies, but he never said for how long.

In the 10 months I've been in recovery, numerous doctors I've seen and countless hours doing research about brain injury, I've never heard anything said about taking allergy meds causing any complications with a head injury. I'm not an expert...but I don't see why you couldn't take them.

Maybe someone else will come along and shed some light on the subject. But, I think your alright taking it.

No advice here. Sorry you are suffering with allergies though. I'm currently dealing with an allergic reaction to something ? and have a nasty itchy rash over about 80% of my body.

I'm on prednisone for 6 days to help try to get it under control and I know there are a few issues with taking it after a concussion (Prednisone can cause an increase in blood pressure = increase in headache frequency and severity... possible increase in blood glucose in people with diabetes and tendencies).

But regular over the counter allergy meds are different, so I don't know. Can you wait until tomorrow and phone your doc or at least chat with your pharmacist? (I know my pharmacist was extremely concerned about the prednisone prescription when I went to fill it.)

Good luck, feel better.

I dont know lol...i remember him specifically saying not to take anything like claritin D or advil cold and sinus. He also said to lay low on things like zyrtec and what not.

I'm so down on taking those right now lmao allergies are bad this year, i swear they get worse every year. I think i might take one anyway but i dont want to regret it later on.

Why not hit a homeopathic doctor and see if homeopathy would work? Who knows right?

I've personally tried homeopathy and different supplements and nothing but Allegra-D works to help control my allergies. My PCP didn't want me to take it very much, but when I tried to cut down on it, I almost got a sinus infection and I was so congested that I couldn't breath through my nostrils at all and the pain from it was bad. I have been taking allergy medications daily for over ten years to help control my severe allergies.

Sudafed might not be good for a head injury (I'm not sure), but in my opinion, severe allergies are worse.

It's definitely worth trying other meds as camyman suggested; just because they didn't work for me doesn't mean they won't work for you. I gave them a shot and was disappointed when they didn't work. C'est la vie.
