Blood tests, where to start?
I am going to see my PCP tomorrow and I want to ask for some blood tests. Having read a lot of posts I am completely confused on what to ask for.
What blood tests would be a good starting point? mrsD suggested testing for lg proteins. Obviously my blood glucose levels and b vitamins, but I'm not sure which ones to ask for. Any other good baseline tests? Thanks in advance |
A1C to see how your dietary goals are working.
Baseline tests don't show much. Specialty tests: This is Dr. Latov's protocol: http://www.questdiagnostics.com/test...eralNeurop.htm ANA Cryoglobulins Immune complexes (IgG, IgM, IgA) Heavy metals Those are the first ones to check out of the huge list. CBC and transferritin + TBI to screen for hemochromatosis. This might show something. Vit B12 and Vit D of course. And blood work for gluten intolerance/celiac. Perhaps Glenn will have more ideas, as he has done most or all of the testing. You can print out that page, and take it to the doctor, to make a preliminary list, say first choice. Then a second list if nothing shows up in first round. And likewise down the line. Some things are going to be less likely for some people. |
Ride on l am so glad you asked that question, as l wondering the same thing.
You know l wonder if here in Australia, they are equipped and experienced to handle this PN. When do you actually know you've done enough testing? My doctor said last time, we will just do these few tests and if we can't find anything from these, then we cannot find the cause of your PN. It just seems like they have already given up before we even started. I would be prepared to hop on a plain tomorrow if l knew l would get better treatment overseas. Sue |
